New version of "Nuclear War" available
Guess what some guys from Sweden have made a new network version of the New World Computing game "Nuclear War". You need the Java 1.3 to run it. I'm downloading it right now.

Btw
Take a look at this screenshot, looks awfully familiar doesn't it?

edit: dubious Civ2 graphics infringement already resolved

Is this a mod or an actual game? It looks like it was lifted directly from Civ 2.

I've taken a closer look at this stuff. To be frank, this guy has basically lifted off a lot of stuff from Civ2, graphics AND sounds!

To top it off he even had the nerve to put his own copyright notice on it !

I've already send an email his way, i wonder if he'll respond

Edit: Ignore the above, new version doesn't use Civ2 graphics and other material anymore .

Just had a response! It started out as a small project only meant for friends which kind of snowballed into ver 3.0. it wasn't meant to be distributed. He already started on a proper GNU version that doesn't use Civ2 graphics and has a page on scourceforge:

http://sourceforge.net/projects/nuclearwar/

You can also download a new version (without infringing graphics) here (15mb!)

I liked that classic game, though one thing that always bothered me, it was only playable SP, would be nice to play it online...

The boardgame is better 'cos you get to nuke your real friends, but the computer game is a laugh too

I eventually saw sense and binned my copy when I realised it had been five years since I'd seen a PC with a 5.25" disk drive slot

a quote for the ages...

Nuclear War (boardgame) was a huge fave of mine, back in the day when the alternatives were AH boardgames, Risk, and D&D. Fast pace, fun, and the ability to annihilate your friends while having a beer. Ming introduced me to it IIRC...

Again one of those things that has never hit the shelves in Denmark (AFAIK)...

You could probably get hold of an English copy if you wanted one. They certainly did a re-release of the game not that many years ago so it should be available 2nd hand even if it is not currently in print. The expansion pack (Nuclear Escalation iirc) is well worth it too for adding more variety and the opportunity of misfiring your weapons or causing even more damage!

I saw that game a LONG time ago. It wasn't much fun though. Pretty boring.
