Running Civ 3 in windowed mode... How?
Is there any way to do this? So I can at least see my taskbar? If anyone knows any way to do this, please tell me!! thanks!

you can run civ3 in widowed mode only with the German version, I think. Certainly not the English version. If you want to get to your task bar just hit the Windows key, which brings up the task bar and opens the Start Menu.

Not to be difficult, but is there any particular reason you want to do this? Just use the KeepRes=1 option and Alt-Tab to your other applications. IMHO, non-maximized windows are pretty useless anyway.

To fake like it is in a window. Have your screen resolution one step larger than what you set civ3 and then make sure you have keepres=1

So on my pc running at 1280x1024

I added the following lines to the .ini file

Video Mode=1152
KeepRes=1

The CIV3 screen will then behave somewhat like a windowed app, but it will always exist in the upper left corner of your screen. But it will do what I think most people are looking for, why you would make a turn based game not able to be played in a window is beyond me.

Thanks cheznoir,

I use an LCD which has a default resolution of 1400 x 1050 and it stretches the game screen and looks blurry. I did your .ini fix for windowed mode and works perfectly for me now.

Thanks,

Wizarc
