I agree with Coracle completely. Not only Conquistadors never formed tactical combat units but they also never took part in the European Wars of the time.If they really wanted to include Conquistadors then they should replace the explorer(with an increased attack value perhaps?).

About the tercio unit he is proposing this was actually a unit of musketeers with pikemen protection.Although the whole formation was called Tercios it was essentially a fighting style ,not an elite fighting unit.It was a tremendously effective combination of firepower and defence that dominated european battlefields.

However this is not Fireaxis only fault at creating unique units.

The tercio is as i understand it....... simply a formation. A pretty basic formation at that. While they imployed it very well and all i dont feel that its a UU its not even a unit. Its two units and if you want to use them then simply put a pike and a musketeer in the same tile and there ya go a Tercio. (this brings up an interesting thought also on pikes. While pikes where mainly defensive units they were just as good on offence as on defence. Some have even gone so far to say that they were better offensively due to the very scary look of thousands of men in tight formation marching at you with loooooonnnng pointy objects bent on killin' you. I have even gone so far as to edit my game so that they are equal on defence and offence making them worth something outside as a city garrison and the occassional escort. Thats beside the point though.) As a spanish UU ( I feel) the conquistador is a very good choice as, as far as i know, it is the only choice.

The tercio is more realistic than conquistador unit. Conquistadors were mercenaries (though mainly from Spain), and were even less of anything important than the Tercio could be considered. The Tercio may have been a formation, but the Conquistadors were EXISTING units (musketmen) that were just named something different for 'unique' purposes.

And yes, the Foreign Legion was French, not Spanish.
