Chances of sinking
Does anybody know what are the chances of a galley that ends a turn in a sea square to sink? I haven't been able to find this in the rules by going through them using the editor.

If I remember correctly, it is a 50% chance each turn. I am at work, so I am simply going off memory, which at my age is getting kinda faulty.... (31 years....)

Hope this helps, or if not that someone who does know for sure will post.

Does anyone know for sure? I need to know this to complete my personal assessment of the minimal costs of colonizing uber isle and the risks involved.
Btw is it possible to move a unit from one ship to another in mid-sea?

yes, and thats the plan.

after the assault on france, we'll send all 3 galleys as far out as they can go to uber isle. 1 of them should survive (maybe even 2).

one goes to the coast of uber isle and then starts exploring until we need it to colonize.

we then use the ship trick to move units across.

Somebody has noticed that our standard galley has met a green barbarian galley near Termina and lost 2 HP? Green Barbarian sunk. If such an incident happens when our galleys travel to the LZ, wll be in trouble. An escort should be contemplated.

The Galleys are the escort. We don't have anything stronger yet, and if we did, we wouldn't be using the Galleys anyway.

I meant an empty galley. An empty galley is worth much less than the cargo of two swordsmen.

Yes, but will the empty Galley be chosen to defend the stack? I don't know if Civ3 even considers cargo when choosing the defender, and there's no real way to test this.

The escort is suppose to attack and to take the loss of 2 HP, allowing the transport galley to continue untouched and possibly take a loss of 2HP without loosing the cargo.

Barbarian galleys are only spawned by barbarian encampents, and i don't see any nearby. That one could have been spawned near Rouen, and saw our ships mucking about.

Huh. I thought that barbarian Galleys just appeared. Does this mean that if there are no coastal barbarian encampments, there will be no barbarian Galleys anywhere?

I have red several explanations on the birth of barbarian galleys ; one of them : barbarian galleys are just patrolling to find preys ; they do not bring the terrian barbarians nor are an offspring of encampments.

acording to the manual, yes. it says somethign like "barbarian encampments on the coast may spawn seagoing vessels".

I have the 570 BC save and couldn't notice this. In this save, we have two galleys, both with 3 HP. If there's an updated save, where is it?

Panag - look at the plans before you make suggestions like that. We're not stopping in any coastal tiles.

Panag,
We're not stopping in any sea tiles. We're just not willing to take the risk and lose two swordsmen. If you've read the plan instead of rushing in and making suggestions you would have surely known that.

Duh.
You said we should end each turn in a coastal tile. I said we already thought about the issue of not ending a turn in a sea tile. We were both referring to the same thing Panag.

Panag, listen. Focus this time okay?
You suggested that we need to end our turns in coastal tiles. I said we already thought about *not* ending our turns in sea tiles (meaning that we end our turns in coastal tiles). It's a slightly different way of putting that but essentially it's the same thing.
Now please, let's get over with it and stop spamming this thread, ok? Not a word about this from now on (or, if you want to reply, please do it via PM).

If it makes you feel better then you can have the last word. Honestly, I couldn't care less.
Now back to the topic: why should the plan be changed so we don't even cross that one sea tile? It's okay to cross a sea tile as long as we end the turn in a coastal tile.
Going through a sea tile would shorten the route, and since I see nothing wrong with passing through a sea tile I think the plan should remain the same (at least the part of it that specifies the route that our galleys would take).

hi ,

actually making the turn (of the ship) a bit earlier , so that we dont cross the sea-tile comes down to the same distance (!) , its not longer , ....
now why would we do this , well we have then a glimp , a view of what goes on on the mainland , we can get a small , free update of those tile's , maybe we see something intresting , that is why , .....

just make that turn a bit earlier

have a nice day
