That wasnt my original understanding but I think that would be the way to go - it avoids trade blocs

Um I like caras. By banning "trading" I assumed that ment techs, gold, maps, cities, etc..... in diplomacy.

since banning caras wasnt mentioned by name and everything else fell under rah rules I assumed caras were fair game.

mmmm, i thought no trading meant no trading... but I see your point.

See what the others say. I'm easy either way but prefer no cara trading. If a few players feel strongly about it we should allow it.

This is the boundary I was proposing to smartfart bad ass after I allowed his undefended Heliopolis to remain in tact. In return I asked him not to settle North of the border but he decided that the first to get a settler there could have it. I've now run out of land and regard his norther n cities as being on my land

1. Heliopolis could have an archer very same turn when your unit arrived. Since we signed a peace treaty I decided to build a settler instead.

2. My units were next to your undefended cities later in the game.

3. I can't believe you actually expect me building where you say it's ok. To claim a land you need cities and units, something what Berzerker bring to our border.

4. I don't care about caravans. Either way is fine with me.

My problem with removing caras is this. While all the other things we've removed, tech trading, gold trading etc.... they haven't removed and viable civ building strategies from the game. Removing caravans gives a distinct advantage to those building large spralling empires over those who have small highly developed empires.

I was actually thinking about postponing a session for an hour. AI taking over isn't exactly to my likings.

I was joking smartfart!

Aussie humour is very sophisticated.. LOL

icq from smart:
"markus will sub for me this evening. I talked to my wife and I am pretty much sure i wont make it on time"

I have a family engagement too but I said I had a prior engagement to play civ with my reliable civ buddies. After all, this is meant to be a reliable players game and I regard online play just as important as a tennis engagement or anything else in real life.

Of course we'll wait till 8:30 or 9pm USA EDT, as far as I'm concerned.

But my experience is that subs mes things up, especially Markus...

If smartfart won't play I'll go to my family engagement. If all original players confirm they can play I will play, even if it is a late start.

Subs work in diplos (just) but my experience is that they stuff up games.
I've talked to my better half who wants me to go to this special breakfast. All week I said I couldn't go because I was playing in a reliable players game!
Anyway, the breakfast starts at 7:30pm USA EDT. If all the original players are online by 10pm I should be back and can then play a solid 4-5 hours...
This is potentially a great game so if the original players aren't available I would rather wait a week or schedule another session before then.

No - I dont think that is the case - I just dont think we should be expected to change tjhe start time by 2 1/2 hours without notice. I understand the situation and am not angry at anyone. I hope no one will be angry with me. I plan on being here a 7:30pm next week.

I am angry at the people who hold grudges against other players and then won't allow them to sub into a game. DD just doesnt want to start the game at 11pm. I'd agree with that.

My point is....
I'd say subs don't ruin games, at least its the lesser of two evils when it comes to missing sessions. If you want to argue that point, fine be my guest. If I had organized this game we'd have played a session tonite. I'm going to out on a limb and say we didn't get to play because certain indivduals in the player group have irrational desputes with other players in the shrinking civ2mp pool which directly influanced tonite result, which is no game.

And the other thing is when you go into a "Super reiliable game" expect freaking subs. ANY sub. The whole idea is that the game will be played AT ALL COSTS. And not to let petty desputes with other players interfere with the game and the enjoyment of the other players.

What's wrong deity oh am I so exactly right that that's you're only defense? I've played maybe 3 games with markus...I couldn't care less who subs. I do care when games don't progress because people won't accept certain subs for reasons besides cheating.

I simply said I didn't think it was a good idea to use subs. Because smartfart went out I felt that my family engagement should go ahead. I'm back now to play with whoever but I understand it's late and most aren't here. It's smartfart who gave the late notice which effected my plans.

For the record I'll play with whoever shows next week, including nominated subs.
AS I said in the intro post to this thread - this game was open to anyone.
I still think subs are a bad idea in non-diplo games but I agree it's better than no game at all.
