Hmmm, this doesnt look good. I wonder if we should recruit a few allies for ourselves. If we dont, im sure France and Germany will get the other civs against us.

I think the situation is not all that bad and let me tell you why.
1) France is DOOMED
We won 2 huge victories with minimal loses.
Marseles and Rheims/Chartes are next
Then we will make peace with France for much tribute and cities and maybe even tech if there allies give them any and they might.
2) Germany is no danger, except for napolitan. So we might loose that city. However I can just about Guarentee the will lose munich and will be gone from our territory once and for all. After we take munich they will make peace in 1/2 turns after.
3) Persia is the wosrt threat but they have settler stacks, yummmy yummy we will get slaves. Ubergorsk is defend by 2 veteran spear behind walls with fortification bonus. This is not like when the AI plans for war and has huge stacks moving against you. This is the AI with a rushed war with a few archers here or there. They will do little damage.
4). Who can they bring against us
America and Greece
Bringing in americva would give us an excuse to finish them sooner.
Greece could be a threat but they are already at war and probably don't need a 3rd war..

Good analysis Aggie.
IMHO Persia can't bring Greece against us because:
a) Persia is low on cash.
b) Greece isn't going to agree to an alliance against us anyway, unless Persia agrees to ally against England as well which is something that Persia can't agree to.

Btw, a swordsman (not the veteran, one of the regulars that we're going to upgrade) should be assigned to hunting down Persian settler stacks. It will make Persia agree to a peace deal much faster IMHO.

They aren't going to bring in anyone else, AI always brings people in right away or not at all, it seems to me. Even if they did bring in Greece, we'd have the "enemy of my enemy is my friend" thing with England and Aztecs.

and dont underestimate germany.

You're right, Germany has two cities (Berlin with 8 pop and Frankfurt with 7 pop) which can produce military units fast.

Indeed they can but remember the ai will start making peace in 5 or so turns(also they are republic), so by the time the troops got to the combat area they would be all dressed up with no place to go.

An idea: Before entering negotiations, move all our units out of Munich. Offer to trade Napoleton for Munich (assuming they have Munich). We'll get Munich through culture-flipping anyway.

I would love to actually look at the save (particularly our exact troop strength and locations at this time, and whatever we know about our enemies), but for some reason both the save files in this thread cause my civ3 to go boom.

I gets to 100% loaded then stops, the CD spins up, and I get illegal operation in sound.dll (it doesnt matter if sound is on or off either) It only happens with these two saves, all my saves are fine, all the older apolytonia saves work, so I dont know.

In any case, if someone wants to actually draw up a tactical map showing just cities & troop strengths (ours & known enemy ones) that'd be cool. If nothing else just a simple list by closest city would work (ie. 3 swordsman near Paris enroute to Orleans or such)

Its hard to make actual knowledgable assessments without that sort of exact information.

Thanks, Ill wait until its posted though. I might try re-installing civ3 tommorrow to see if that fixes the loading problem, though I dont expect it to since only these 2 saves have problems.

The geographic Society is working on a group of maps especially for SMC use, with each troops indicated in size, strength, etc. I hope we can have this done tonight (RL, again...), or a little soon.

When you capture an enemy town it's culture is lost. If you still think I'm wrong just look at the maps or download the save and you'll see that Paris's culture has shrunk to 0 and we don't have control of the wine tiles.

culture is gone for a city you take. automaticall all culture improvements are lost too. If you retake your city, you do get the culture, but not imrovementsback.
