Which Palace Architecture style?
Well the latest turns having been completed, and one thing (albeit minor) comes up for discussion. Screw the prepoll debate here, this is purely esthetics, so just vote.

When the people next want to upgrade the Palace, which style shall we have it done in?

5 day poll, and if the option comes up in the next turns, I can always take the optionwith the most at the time, can't I?

Since we're Egypt we should use Middle-Eastern architecture.
Another interesting question would be: should we retain the same architecture throughout the entire process of constructing the Palace?

I didn't realise we could change. That's why I started the poll. Don't the 5 options only come up for your first improvement, and from then on they are set in that style?

Actually, no. In one game, I had different parts of the palace done in different styles (i.e. first part was Greco-Roman, second was Asian, third was European, etc.)

Of course, that was 1.16. I don't know if we can do that in 1.21.

Can someone tell me how then? Every game I have ever played (all versions) has shown the 5 different choices only with the first time the Improve Palace dialog pops up. After then the 5 squares at the bottom of the screen denoting the different types of architecture are not present, and by clicking on a place you automatically build in the same style as before. Do you right-click or shift-click or something that isn't (once again) in the manual?

MWIA - I have no idea why you can't do this. I can, and I am frequently annoyed when the game resets it to my native setting when I load a game up, as I ALWAYS use Greco-Roman.

Btw, the ****ing thing has again removed my ability to vote, so manually add +1 to Greco-Roman.

The 5 different styles are always available at the bottom right of the palace screen. But once you've placed the improvement its perment for that improvement.

I tend to my palace in whatever style is typical of the nation's I'm fighting, and I'm working on an alternate palce graphic set where the background is a throneroom and the improvements are slaves, treasure, etc. Kinda like Civ2 only you fill it up with the spoils of war.

I always mix them and make my own palace. It always looks at least half decent in the end.

Skywalker:

Out of curiosity, when you submit your vote, do you double-click on the button? IIRC, your vote gets submitted if you do that, but you can't see the results unless you open the "view results" window.

Try clicking once.

Wouldn't it be funny if it was a British censor and replaced the F word with polite British swears like "blast!"

Those blasted archers took our swordsman!
Blast those French!

You alway have the option to change, though IMO if you mix'n'match the result usually ends up looking a mess.

I can't believe Greco-Roman is winning! They are 2 of our most dangerous enemies!

I think if you exit the game, the style reverts to "default" (for the civ? not sure).

My theory:

It is AOL. Or rather, the IP AOL assigns you. Try signing on again and voting. Each time you log on you get a new IP from a pool that AOL uses. If someone (me?) has already used that AOL IP, it will not let you vote.

Consequently, where do you live? It seems only one of us can vote at a time...when you cannot, I can, and vice versa...

AOL also owns several other providers around the country and may be sharing IP's between them all.

I've realized that this is an AOL problem. However, often when I sign off and sign back on, I have the same IP address.

Yes, yes. We MUST make a distict Banana style culled from the various inferior styles available. We should hold this poll each time we need to upgrade our place and see the change in style over time.

Have you tried a different access #? I have about 20 access $'s stored. They all hook into different servers, and therefor have a different list of IP's. I changed my access # not too long ago, and have not had the same trouble since.

Actually it's possible to share a range of IP addresses between several servers, as long as they're all connected to the same higher-level ISP.
In AOL's case I think they're connected to a backbone so in most cases you'll have to dial to an access number in another country to be sure that you'll get a different IP.
