Working polluted (and depolluted) squares.
When a square is polluted, the citizen working there turns into a specialist. Unfortunately, he doesn't go back into the fields when the pollution has been cleared, so I have to manually place him there. If I don't, less food, and eventually too little, is grown in that particular city, ultimately causing starvation. This bit of micromanagement becomes tedious in the mid-to-late game, when pollution is abundant.

So is there ANY way of automatising the process of getting citizens back into farming after a worker has cleaned up a square?

I too find this a pain in the arse. Activating the governor might work, although I never use them because they're crap. Which leads you to ask what my point is - I dont have one, but I thought you may like to I that I share in your suffering.

Dutch I wanted to ask exactly the same question few weeks ago but for some reason I can not start a thread.

I tried to solve the problem myself and did some experiments with the governor in my last game. I turned the governor on with instructions to maximise food production and to handle happines. It worked well for me and really speeded the end game turns.

I have never bothered to activate the governor. Is it possible to tell him to just keep an eye on the workers(keep'em happy and productive) and leave the rest to you?

When pollution starts being a problem it is possible to jut set the governor to manage happiness and nothing else (or to maximise use of high production tiles as well if you prefer). This will automatically re-work any pollution square that is cleaned up (or any square you lost the use of due to enemy troops being in it). The problem is that you can't change which squares are being worked (to optimise production a little better) without turning off the governor. So I tend to only do it when my cities are already working every possible tile and most of the main ones have one or more entertainers/specialists. Which is when pollution starts to become a really annoying problem anyway. But once you are using every tile (or nearly every tile) the governor can't really work thw wrong ones for you...
