Do the guys at Firaxis hate the Mongols?
I mean , it's outrageous . Their leader will surely be the mockery of gamers for ages to come. I some how got used to the Idea that the Khan looks like a log of wood , But to dress him in those glowing pink clothes in the modern era, as if he was some kind of pimp , That's terrible!

( Thanks in advance to Ixnay for the collection of ugly doll faces )

There was a very long thread about Firaxis' caricature of Genghis when the first picture of him came out. I was hopefull that in later eras, at least, Khan would appear more professional (as he obviously was). I am in favour of accurate portrayals and I would understand if Khan looks poor, dirty, even ugly. But the pictures from Firaxis are of juvenile foolishness. Khan should not be the Jar Jar of Civ3.

Oh, come on. What do you want the guy to look like? The nice little old man of 15th Century Chinese illustration? The guy lived in pig fat for half a year, in a tent made of furs coated with dried animal urine. He was no looker, he was a rugged little guy, and he wasn't cute in the least. What would you expect him to look like? The Firaxis picture is fine as it is, if you don't like it, create another one, or simply don't buy the game.

Tassadar--- Old man...all I can say is...HYPOCRACY! Err...sorry about that...

Anyway, if you want an accurate portrayl, the Firaxis version is more accurate than the kind little old man of 15th Century Chinese illustration. Anyone who thinks otherwise must be a bit silly.

So? I'd rather have a 15th Century Chinese Illustration than a Khan on crack.

Alright. Then the accurate portrayal goes out the window. (And yeah. I could tell...sorta...)

For realism, this is much closer to what Khan looked like:

Oh, not this again...

And all those portraits of rulers down through the ages with nary a gimp among them? All accurate. Right?

I've got a bridge for sale. Cheap. You interested?

NYE, I have much more faith in scholars who have actually studied the region than a bunch of white boys in Maryland. There is no historical basis for Firaxis' picture. Look at the people in the region today, they look nothing like that.

Scholars who have studied? That portrait was a product of the people who governed China and needed to legitimise themselves.

Is the Khan according to Firaxis ugly? Yes. So to is Kathy. Abe looks like he's stoned. Alex... I don't want to mention what I think is behind Alex's expressions.

The artists of the designers have taken certain liberties, yes. However, it is impossible for them to depict any of the pre modern leaders 'accurately'.

Genghis doesn't have to look like in the portrait, which of course, isn't "accurate" either. However, Genghis was surely no teethless idiot. I mean, he looks like a "village idiot". It's even OK to have him ridiculed a bit, as are other leaders too.
But I think it's really offensive and stupid and will surely replace this graphics instantly to the animated Genghis leaderhead which has already been done by someone.

I don't think it's offensive to Genghis ( after all, he IS dead for a very long time ) but It's , simply disgusting to look at !

for some reason, the attachment didn't pass through at the first time, so I'll try it again.

Carver-- That image is, I'm sorry to say, propaganda. The Great Khan couldn't have looked like that in the least...for one thing, he looks too fat to ride a horse...

I know that in reality Gengis was no "conqueror", he was just a big continental "looter" or "plunderer", but I dont want the leaderface in Civ3 to be sooooo accurrate that his nose has dry blood hanging from it. Make some changes, just make it look like a Mongol general that never fought with his own hands and took a bath once per day.
