Fill-in the gaps
Now that we've, uh... "acquired" new territory from the French we need to fill in the gaps in our new territory. I have opened this thread to discuss where we should send settlers to and by what order.
I have made two images that show my proposal for the next city sites. The numbers are merely for reference, not to suggest a certain order by which these cities should be founded.
I urge you to comment as well as to voice your own opinion on the matter.

Note: I cannot upload images for some reason. The forums says: "The image that you have attached is too big. Please make it no bigger than 600 x 0."
I've uploaded them to the web instead.

Map 2.

I think it's very important to get more cities since we are far behind. Your suggestion to place them seems ok. But the poor people will be living in the jungle.

I think #4 should be moved one square SE. so it can gobble that grassland by the river (one more tile within our cities' radii and it doesn't give up any tiles not already covered by existing cities) and be one square closer to the capital.

To me this is a justified use of settlers, but these will be put on hold if we raze Rhiems, Chartres and Munich.

That's 9 settlers, in other words we have to reduce all of our Four Core cities to size 1. Leaving us with nothing but size 1's and 2's in the ENTIRE empire. Then we'd have to do it again.

I'm going to start calling this the "caulking" thread. And all the people in favor of "filling gaps" are going to be referred to as "Caulkers".

Site 2 looks good Maybe 1 tile NE would be better?

I don't have the new save yet but if Port rouge is still a 2 then a settler could be built there and be ready in about 12 turns to build on site 2.

Then we'd wouldn't need a ROP with France and would have a better cahnce of flipping those French cities.

Also I can't belive we still haven't got a city on site 4 yet.

I really like all those spots. 1 and 2 with temples would pressure that french city if it still exists. I forgot if it does. Chartres does anyway. 3 Would help flip that greek city. and 4.. well there sure is a gap there!

If we dont grant RoP, the site n° 4 should have the lowest priority : it can only be accessed from Chartres, particularly if we follow OPD advice to move site n° 2 one tile NE.

I think so. This site n° 3 is the closest of Greeks cities.

Just to get one fact straight, we don't need a RoP to trade through the road to Chartres. When you're at peace with a nation goods can pass through their territory.
I'm absolutely sure this is true. In fact I loaded a game I had saved somewhere else and disbanded a lot of cities to see if I can still pass goods through enemy territory and it turned out that I can.

With a bit of luck sites 2, 4 and Port Rouge can culture-flip Chartres.

Does anyone have any objections to building a city 1 tile NE of site 2.

If not then I will speak to Will and start building a stlr.

although we can trade through other nations we shouldn't have to and it isalways best to have our mainland cities conected by culture.
