Sounds good. We can make arguments and threats etc outside the game and complete trades over turns i think.

Good to have you in Centrifuge

Okay, I'm new to this, so bare with me...

Quick question...
If we start the game with lets say 5 players, what happens if someone gets lost in the shuffle (due to giving up, losing computer access, going to jail or whatever ) Does the AI automatically take over, thus allowing the other four to continue?

Of couse you guys will have to give up of some proposal types.
The ones that use arguments like give gold (argument = gold amount), give city (argument = wich city), reduce pollution (argument = pollution amount).
Of couse i could just remove the argument of some of them like reduce pollution but without the amount, etc...
And you guys cant make counter-proposal and threat (I could remove the button if you like).

Are these sacrifices bearable???

It is up to you to decide.
ah ok, that rules out the most useful proposals Well thanks for trying Pedrunn, i think we should go ahead without any fixes then, just to keep things simple. Maybe you can go over the code some other time, i know youve got alot of work on now.

The computer doesnt take over if someone drops out, we'd either need a replacement or a neutral moderator to move the game on for anyone who misses a turn.

Still waiting on replies from Nuke Boy and Vultur... or anyone else interested.

And yet the code isnt 100% that will work out. I wa going to tell you guy to give a try without it.
In the future i will give it a try. Or someone may want to try with my help.
But until them have a good game

I'd like to join in. Surely it should be possible to conduct diplomacy by means of gifts, which the temporarily-AI player will almost certainly accept.

urgh? erm... I don't think I can play this one, I have a busy year ahead of me, and I really don't want to get too caught up in any more stuff.

What kind of moderating do you need? I'm happy to take a copy of the gamefile each time, and store them until the end in case there are cheating claims or whatever. And chase after people who have taken ages (says I, )
Other than that, it's just a matter of sending files round the circle.

I thought that collective "we" meant you were interested, but nevermind If you still want to moderate the game as you suggested that would be great. In each case the person would play the turn, then send it to you and the next person in the queue. Unless it kills your inbox before then.

If needed, I could moderate as well. I have a 80 GB HDD so I don't have to worry about size limitations with lots of savegames

Have you decided on a mod for the game yet? Or is going to be vanilla CtP2?
I'd be interested to play too if I like the setup... (being fussy, I know)

Yeah i had been tossing around the idea of playing the World Map scenario, but everyone would want to be USA or Russia. But maybe Apolyton Mod. We'd definately need some kind of quickstart settings though, more gold, PW, settler acts like a city planner.

Maq told me to post my preferences - difficult thing to do because I haven't thought about it yet...
It just came to my mind that a mod would certainly pose some difficulties. I saw some posts about that when they set up the succession games. Because we'd need to reload slic some thinks wouldn't work properly, eg. frenzy. Nevertheless I'd love to play this on cradle - maybe if we just started a short testgame between two players to see if it works?
What do you guys think?

Well, I will work with whatever settings are decided upon. I'd like to make a quick statement about the world map scenario, however. The world map would be fun, however there is the fact that (as Maquiladora stated) everyone would want to be USA or Russia, and that everyone would know what the map looked like, and would be able to find the other civ's with alot more ease. This brings up some considerations, but since we would all have those initial benefits/drawbacks, it should even things out.

A cradle game would also be fun, but what about trying a WAW on the world map? Whatever is decided upon, I'm sure it will be fun and challenging, so I'm game for anything...

Oh, and if we play on a world map I will take a Civ other than USA or Russia

An idea I also like. I only want it to be a different game from vanilla if do play it because I get vanilla in the tourny already.

As for the starting location on a world map - I'd be happy to go along with sth else than the US or Russia - but not with any of the European civs.

Grrr, well if everyone wants to use a certain Mod then we can. Id prefere it to be Cradle, MedMod or Apolyton if we do. (because ive only finished 2 games of WAW) Although i still think we should play unmodded/Apolyton because everyone knows the game vanilla style and Cradle is just too damn epic! It could take years to complete.

On another note Locutus kindly converted Keygen's PBEM ModLite from CivCtP to CtP2. Id prefere it if we used this with the Apolyton pack or the unmodded game with this. Heres a short readme of its effects -

* 8 predefined advances - Agriculture, Toolmaking, Slave Labor, Masonry, Bronze Working, Stone Working, Religion and Ship Building.

* 1 bonus discovery randomly selected between Concrete, Iron Working, Hull Making, Trade, Drama and Jurisprudence.

* 3 free caravans.

* 3 settlers with increased movement by 900, totaly 1000, only for the first turn. After that turn the settlers' bonus movement will stop existing.

* 10.000 gold and 5000 PW

*1st city to be built within the first 5 turns will grant population of 3, bonus good within the city tile, 2 Hoplite, 1 warrior and 1 settler.

* 2nd & 3rd cities to be built within the first 5 turns will grant population of 2, 2 Hoplite, 1 warrior and 1 settler.

I dont know if we can use that with the World Map scenario but i think its pretty good...
Id probably want to be Africa though, although i havent looked at all the starting positions yet

Since everybody is calling startting locations and I guess I couldn't possibly pull out anymore - I'll go with Australia! I rather keep to myself...

I think it takes away from the fun when you dont know what the hell your plan is because you dont know the mod. I dont know if the other players have even tried the other mods.

I dunno, Aus is a pretty small island you know

What about 'Mod Lite' with the World Map scenario? Havent tried it but i think its possible.

Would be nice if the other players posted some thoughts too...

That mod lite thing would be fine. I assume that with 5 players we won't feel the need to put up with AI's then? That'd be my choice.

You're kidding? I must have had a window seat in Geography class. Well you know, Africa has big deserts! ... Ooops, so does Australia I guess. Anyway, it would be clear at game start that of course south-east asia was going to be mine as well as any other patch of land in the region - like that Africa island... all mine!

Yeah im really considering taking somewhere as far away from Aus. as possible now

Im still open to WAW or other mods, but atm im thinking of the other players and some swift turn exchanges. In effect WAW has its own kind of quickstart settings so it could still be suitable, who knows what problems we might have with frenzy or something though, so for the moment.... Ill take it we're using World Map Scenario with ModLite, and see what the others think.

Worldmap, with modlite sounds good, I haven't checked out the size of Britain in the world map, but assuming the island is big enough to get at least a few decent cities on I'll take them (might be a mistake for my 1st try at MP, but I've always loved a challenge )

Anyway, as I've said before I'll make do with what ever is decided upon...

I joined Apolyton just now because I also like to try some PBEM games.

I began to play civ1 in 1993, for over 2 years. Then later i played civ2 after it came out for another several years. (BTW, they improved my english a lot coz they have a large vocabulary and a lot of text i need to read through ) Now i have been playing ctp2 and watching this forum for over half year. so far, I have played ApolytonMod and WAWMod only. And no PBEM experience.

I found ctp2 is the best civ game for me, one of the major reasons is I can tune some aspects of the game, another reason is there are some very good Mods to play. Once you got a little bored by one, you can switch to another for a while.

Ok, if i can join, I will perfer to play with ApolytonMod (with a quick start) or WAWMod, with world map. And I will like to choose Chinese civ.

A suggestion is to reduce the cost of all the Advances (or maybe some) to speed the game and to reach the modern age quickly.

Hope we can start it ASAP!

One more suggestion: For each game, the number of human players is limited at 3 or 4. If not, i can see there may be two problems. 1. it takes too long to wait for your turn; 2. the chance that someone quits halfway is higher.

Welcome intel686, that brings us to a total of 6 players now.

When we were talking about the World Map Scenario we meant the 27 civs one right? I think even with 6 players the map size 400*400 is too big and slow for this. So i propose we use Random Huge maps.

I agree. I think we should limit any game at 4 players max. You can of course play in multiple games.

Game 1 - Maquiladora # intel686 # Centrifuge # J Blytheway
Apolyton Pack 2.0 mod + ModLite, Random huge map.

Game 2 - Maquiladora # Mapfi # Vultur # Centrifuge
WAW mod, Random huge map.

Just a suggestion. Let me know what you guys think... so we can actually get started

Wow! A lot of discussion since yesterday

I think a 4 player limit is a good idea. I've been playing CTP PBEM for 18 months and have not yet finished a game with more than 2 players. Keeping the games small to begin with would be advisable.

I'm happy to play with any mods or vanilla, and I like the idea of the world map. I'll take Africa .

5-6?
Difficult level?
Medium?

I had a go at the 400x400 world map with WAW yesterday and to tell the truth - I didn't like it at all.
Even though I think a worldmap would be fun somehow I feel the game looses a lot when you know where to go. And frankly, I was very disturbed by one aspect of WAW - a settler will cost you only one pop but the new city is founded with size 5 - so the first 100 turns are only going to be about rapid expansion. Any other aspect becomes rather irrelevant. So I'd rather not play with WAW after all... (sorry, I didn't really now what I was talking about before)
I also think that a huge map will be to big. Compare it to the setup from the mp tourny, which is in my opinion a very good map setup for mp.

Bummer on the no WAW, mapfi I really enjoy WAW, because of all of the modern units etc. It is however geared toward the quick start, so if that is not what we're looking for, then I suggest maybe another SAP game... Else MedMod, but, I've never played a whole game with it, so I can't claim to know a whole lot about it.
