Setting up IP Games XXXIX
Well, the other one was getting large, and it seemed a good break point. SO...................

Is it XXXIX or XXXVIIII
I guess I should have paid more attention in school? (yeah right )

Ming, Please close the other one. (Since I CAN"T)

Friday will be here soon.

RAH
It would be nice to have Berz and War4 back.

Both Roman numerals are valid, I think, but the first is more common. I guess you may as well prepare yourself now for Aussie lager jokes when the next thread comes along

If they're both valid, that would explain why I had problems choosing one. I couldn't picture either of them being wrong. At least the movie XXX didn't come out prior to that thread.

XXXVIIII is NOT VALID.

XXXIX is correct.

No wonder you're still a "Vice-"...
(But at least you picked the right one. )

Oops.

Perhaps IIX is an alternative to VIII then.......I know there was something like that, with both being valid.

Lol, I was sure there were 2 possibilities for 1 number and there is. I checked a site this morning (yup, pretty sad Hydey, but I had to rescue my flagging reputation ) and IIII was in use before IV became standard. This can apparently be seen on some clocks. I don't think this implies VIIII was ever used before IX though, because it's one extra letter.

As Graham Chapman of Monty Python used to say when a bit was running too long "This is getting Silly" then walk off.

Halfwit and close personal friend!

Oh, and Rich -- Can't you get anything right? Everyone knows XL is a shirt size, not a number. (said the halfwit)

Finally, to Baron O -- Unless Ming feels otherwise, we'll decide for ourselves when we've quite well beaten this sufficiently into the ground, thank you.

(+1 for half-defending my halfwitted honor)

For the classic "ROMAN NUMERALS 101"

http://www.cod.edu/people/faculty/lawrence/romans00.htm

Pretty definative. And it even mentions Old clocks that use the older notation. So I wonder if this the the Site that Spike checked out.

RAH
But yes Barono is correct. Back to CIV

Sorry, still at work.

A lot of older clocks used Roman numerals as the numbers on the clock face.

Jesus are we still on this?

The clocks were only relevant because Rah saw the comment I made on IIII being used on old clocks, and rightly deduced I had looked at the same source that he did, as in the link above.

Like the Norwegian Blue, this one is dead.......I hope.

My unexpected houseguests (For over a week now)won't be around Friday night.

I should be able to sneak in a game (Which is all I can afford to do these days)

an ontopic post.

Great, Be around early so maybe we can start early.

Berz said he should be able to play. And maybe if War4 isn't playing soccer, he can test out his machine and see if his problems have been solved.

Ming, I've got supplies chilling and am planning on seeing you tonight. Let me know if there are contraindications.

Heavy day, will be offline and out of office for most of it.
