Notes on garrisons in the formerly French cities
We still have a lot of swordsmen garrisoning the formerly French cities. Rouen is garrisoned by a vet spearman, a wounded vet. swordsman and a wounded vet. archer. Here It Is is garrisoned by a vet. swordsman and a wounded vet. archer. Port Rouge is garrisoned by an elite spearman and a wounded vet. archer. Finally, Marseilles is garrisoned by a vet. swordsman and an elite swordsman!
I do realize the importance of garrisoning Marseilles with strong units that can also counter-attack but now that we can build pikemen, I suggest that we replace the elite swordsman with a pikeman and send the elite swordsman to where he's really needed, and replace the other swordsmen and archers with pikemen as well, once they're fully healed.

Btw: I wonder, why haven't our troops heal already? Is it because they're fortified and they only heal when they skip a turn or something?

IIRC, they must skip a turn, or two.

They haven't healed? That is surprising b/c even when fortified they should heal 1 hp per turn, as long as they are not moving.

The haven't healed because it took all the turns to position them, next turn or two they will be all healed.
I wanted them to get into position as soon as possible. since the danger of attack was minimal I figured they would have a chance to heal. Actually my orders did call for all the elite swords to go to east. But with the google of swordmen, they might have got lost in the shuffle. No biggie though. Well we need a barracks there too so our forces can upgrade the spears.
