This is so frustrating. The max I can get out of 3DMark is 5,800. The Radeon 8500 with Athlon 1900 beats that

Something is seriously wrong with my system

Maybe your video card just isn't a good make... mine is a Gainward Geforce2 TI450 (64MB)... a very good performer...

Asus v8600. It's one of the best manufacturers.

I'm sure it's something to do with the ALi chipset - I've been looking through the 3DGuru forums and it seems to be a well known problem. Unfortunately the remedy means that I'm gonna have to use the 29.xx Detonator drivers, but it'll be worth it hopefully.

Damn it, people. I had hopes this was a thread about Matt submitting to Asher, and that there would be pictures.

This is why we don't buy ALi, right Matt?

The best Athlon chipset vendors are: Via, SiS, AMD, then ALi bringing up the rear.

The best chipset maker overall is Intel though, it's one of the main reasons I prefer Intel platforms.

What'd you do? Update the chipset drivers?

You should also look at your AGP aperture settings, and check if you have fastwrites/sidebanding enabled.

Loaded dxdiag.exe and found out that AGP Texture Acceleration couldn't be turned on until I used the 29.xx drivers. Only problem now is I get booted to desktop or BSOD when I am running games/benchmark.

Well I've come up with a temporary solution. Took the fan off my old heatsink (7000rpm) and just placed it at an angle inside my computer so it pushes air through my heatsink. The Athlon now runs at 45-50C and the benchmarking doesn't crash (unless I put on the sideband fast-write options on)

My best score so far is 8000 I suppose that will have to do as I can't see any more solutions.

Just put my FSB up to 138 and my CPU mulitplier to 13.5.

5218 is my CPU score now. That's pretty damn good

11165, without any overclocking whatsoever.

http://service.madonion.com/compare?2k1=4408555

BTW, Matt, make sure yours have "Published" checked off, because it won't let me view yours. You need to copy/paste the "Compare" URL.

Still not the right URL, Matt.
click Project Manager in the top left.
Look at the project you wanna publish, check off the "Published" checkbox, then click Update at the bottom.

Then copy and paste the "Compare URL" it tells you here.

You almost caught up in some of the CPU-bottlenecked tests due to that overclocked Athlon.

I ran a compare and it seems everyone who has got into the 10,000 range has a FAB of about 170 MHz compared to my 138

I got my score with a 133 FSB.
My video card is doing all of the work though.

That's just not going to happen with a GeForce 3 unless you can do some serious overclocking.

I think I am going to ask my dad to get me a AMD Althon XP 2000+ and a Gainward Geforce4 TI4200 with 128MB of ram since he is getting a raise very soon. Is that a good choice of a video card asher?

Depends by what you mean good...

NV30 and its value boards will be out at the end of the year, I'd wait for one of those.

And if you wait till the end of the year you should get one of the new Pentium 4 3.06GHz with hyperthreading.
