you left out win by score, and popular personal victories such as terrorist nation aiming for defeat.

I've found the tech win in all civ-type games very satisfying so, Spaceship. Conquest and even Domination can get to be quite tedious. Cultural isn't a bad idea but the win seems so anticlimatic. Diplo is just a rediculous joke (although it shouldn't be that way - Supream Leader from SMAC anyone?).

You left out Diplo victory....

As for me... it's pot-luck. I take what I see if fit. Generaly, I chicken out and in the last minute sell all of my gold and get a Diplo win due to looming late game wars that would be unwinable for me.

Conquest is by far the most satisfying, I use the others as an easy out if the game starts to get boring. I could just quit and start a new game, but quitting is not in my nature (that's why I still smoke )

i usually go for conquest as space race is often a cinch, I've got less chance of winning a cultural victory on emperor than I have of meeting an alien and the diplomacy victory implementation is the worst thing I've seen in a game, a five year old could have coded better. WTF were they thinking when they thought that would be good enough? As mentioned above SMAC diplomatic victory to Civ3 diplomatic victory is a huge step backwards. The same as if you went from UT2003 to Wolfenstein.

Getting back OT I find that going for conquest win will often mean I get a domination win instead. must learn to be more ruthless and raze that size 17 city and kill the million or so inhabitants instead of incorporating it into my empire.

I find that interesting. Usually by late game, I'm always in a position of total domination, and it becomes a matter of how much unhappiness and casualities a war will cost.

BTW, great avatar! I take it you're a MST3K fan. I was watching that episode this morning.

It depends on which civ I get (I do random civs). BTW, I feel so inferior. When I post at CFC, I don't feel as bad with my number of posts there.

Zarn, I feel the same way. This 'settler' rating just doesn't feel right when I have an 'emperor' title over there.

But anyways... I like Conquest, but mopping up the last couple of cities that the last civ has gets tiring, so I'll just go ahead and trigger domination.

Or I'll just let them live and be my puppet civ for a few hundred years. I just love having someone like Catherine be all furious at me and there isn't anything she can do about it. .

Yah, Bamspeedy. 1000+ posts at CFC means nothing at apolyton. The only time that I forced Catherine into a one city state, was before the first patch. I had her landlockes and everything. She completely depended on me. Other civs declared war on her, though.

+1 post for the Catholic Republican

Spaceship.

With the large maps I use, conquest gets very tedious.

Welcome CFCers!!

Sorry for your (temporary) loss, but I'd love to see you guys here more often.

More cross-fertilization...

Anyway, a more serious answer than before:

1) Haven't achieved a cultural victory yet.

2) One conquest victory... tedious.

3) Domination pretty often.

4) Spaceship has been my win type lately... learning to love the late game.

5) Diplo, what a let down. I've been turning it off mostly.

6) OCC, soon to come (probably the only diplo win I respect).

I still stop some games midway through, when I know it's my game. I sorta think of it as being similar to Carver's Quick Challenge... how well do I think I ran the game up to that point?

Another interesting question: How do you lose??

Usually SS but often domination. Never have won by culture, conquest or score.

I really hated the diplomatic victory at first, but I'm coming around to a new opinion. It's great because it saves you the hastle of playing the boring and poorly conceived modern era.

When I tried out the jump from Emperor to diety, I was obliterated by a coaltion of Rome, Persia, and Iroqouis (yeesh!). I ended up with one city on a pathetic island, so I gave up. Only time I was ever thoroughly thrashed.

Space Ship is the one I usually end up doing, just because it's pretty easy. However, when I'm looking to have a bit more fun, I disable all victory types except Conquest and Domination and slug it out. I *always* disable Diplomacy- it's got to be the stupidest, most infuriating victory type there is. You're cruising along, or perhaps in the middle of an epic war, or two turns away from completing the last SS component, then bang! Game over. Ugh.

Re: Which victory do you usually go for?
I usually win by Conquest, Domination, and Spaceship all in the same game by 2049 AD (I mean if you load my 2049AD savegame, you have multiple options: you can either launch the spaceship, destroy the last AI city, build another city, build the UN, or do nothing and win by Culture). Cultural and Diplomatic victory does require more works and a lot of time, I'm too lazy for it.

I just had a domination before I wanted it, so from now on only Conquest.
