Downloaded here at work, emailed home to the iMac. Will unzip and look through it tonight, perhaps comapare to the previous 1800 save and draw up a flimsy excuse for a battle plan.

Playtime likely to be Thursday night (US).
(Looks like 8 turns is the new standard for this round.)

Bloody real world getting in the way stops all my fun
I found time to confirm receipt of a good zip and save as a gamefile. Looks like things have gotten very interesting. Our tech rate is 3 turns, our treasury around 2500 GP, and we're in deficit spending to the tune of about 200 GP/turn. We're also at war with all civs, with our Commie cities defended by just one or two outmoded units. On the plus side, it looks like there's lots of open land out there, and adding cities could be a big help when we start building SS parts. First-glance tech target will be Offshore Platforms, which iirc we're 3 techs away from at present. Some odd choices on white goods construction will be examined, and I didn't have time to look at our trade routes. Much to consider -- looks like fun.
Maybe I'll play 20 turns and really change the course of history...

...just kidding.

@&*$ PTW crap
Good question… I dunno 'coz the server load is having the same effect as it did a month ago. Both the sav and the zip d/l only about 30k, then quit.

We can always email our way around the problem while conditions persist. (Mine is in my profile in place of a homepage.)

Unfortunately, I too had IRL interference last night. Was drafted to play math tutor to my 14-yr old, so playtime was extremely limited.

Took a fair amount of time to absosrb all the changes that have occurred, played one turn and resolved to get home early tonight so I can finsish and post prior to the FNSGS meeting at Ming's.

-Deficit spending was actually about 70 GP/turn, still deemed fiscally irresponsible.
-No Superhighways (researching Electronics).
Considering some new directions...

If all goes well, I'll post aound 8pm CST (0100 GMT) tonight.
Straybow, do want a direct email of the zipfile then?

Don't discuss this game with Ming and Rah, they are as stupid as the AI and may pass on secrets

Thanks Hydey.

Jrabbit, I'd only worry about Ming and Rah passing secrets if they're smarter than the AI. Deficit spending is fine, when it serves a good purpose. Tickling vitally needed troops and city improvements will outpace income unless you've got a money machine like the repeat commodities to Berlin.

The occasional long distance delivery can net several hundred gold, which can go a long way to cover deficits. So always keep one eye on trade, even in the heat of war.

(email either the sav or a zip, whichever)

Very true. Superhighways are a boost to trade and help with the treasury so don't forget to build them ... Ah! we need Automobile to do that and we don't seem to have the tech. I'm not hinting

ps Flight kills trade bonuses. Some retraining is called for at the Institute. Sloppy research will not be tolerated

Here's the story...
Ill try to keep it brief.

1818 -- Berlin sends cannon vs. Hamburg. egypt switches from Democracy so Monarchy so we bribe Elephantine (net cost about 900) and rush extra defenses there. Silk to Beijing for 172 GP.

1820 -- China declares Democracy. Egyptian troops massing.

1822 -- St. augustine concludes that ours is the happiest civ in the universe. Egypt learns their lesson, returns to democracy. Ask for 450GP. -- they declare war. We discover Electronics! Machine tools or auto... We want to activate Oil, so it's Auto. polulation now exceeds 12MM.

1824 -- English emissary claims elephantine is rightfully theirs. tell him to go complain to egypt, since they put it there. war declared. gold to Keinkoloss = 132GP.

1826 -- Adams Coffin survives Barb attack. Berlin hurls more worthless troops against Hambourg. Egypt fails to attack Elephantine -- bribes it back instead. Two freights to Rhondda (copper and beads -- yield just 24 each. Ouch!!

1828 -- Germans request and receive a cease-fire. We discover the Automobile, disabling leo's workshop now it's time for Machine Tools. Pollution warnings begin. Barb king ransomed = 150 Beads, Cola, Dye, silver x2 delivered here and there for 102, 102, 94, 97, 87. Unhappy with yields. This is the penalty for flight? Oh, also established Japanese embassy, then bribed Hangchow for a foothold there (net cost = 186 )

1930 -- Spy takes hut, gets 50 GP. Oh well, at least no barbs...

1932 -- Gold to Heidelberg, 86gp. Coal to Kagoshima, 30 -- Wool to Berlin 144, Oil to Leipzig 164.

1934 -- Machine Tools are ours. Miniaturization next. Village of Wall Fall Down founded north of Berlin, while transport takes engineer and alpine troops north to found a sister city. Hides to Izumo, 107. Hides, Salt to Yokahama (258, 59).

MISC NOTES
Ship chains are coming back together. Northern exploration unit out with spy. Power plants, factories, and superhighways soon to dominate our home island.

Sorry for the delay. Much fun was had...

Went ahead to 1930, but just for a peek. Managed to return to 1834 by the time I finished.
either that or it took 106 years to get Machine Tools...

Back in time to 1834…
1834 Review: Whoa, Nelly! Way too many city improvements under construction. Some of these cities desperately need shield output, and as soon as we get Miniaturization we'll build Offshore Platforms. Several cities still defended with outdated forces; some need Engrs. Tickling, disbanding of old units.

No Power Plants or SHwys until we can tame pollution a bit w/Mass Trans. At least that's the way I do it, because the cities that make SHwys worthwhile @ 5 upkeep already have pollution problems.

1836 Frankfurt Oil to Hoover 128g; more tickling; Spy destoys Konigsberg Lib
1838 Miniaturization; Spy shipped to distant north tips a hut for 100g; Engr
–––– in Tport heading towards string bean continent come across German Frigate
–––– and scramble away; Spy destroys Konigsberg Mkt; Oddball English city named
–––– "Douvres" on island south of Yokohama—the English have regressed to their
–––– Norman roots?

1840 Magellan Mkt, Marcono Granary, Leipzig Colosseum, NotG Offshore Platform
–––– Celts want 400g for peace (yeah, right) NoLady Gold to Caernarfon 64g;
–––– Spy axes K'berg Crths prod'n; Chinese want 250, Spy sabotages Cav (killed)
–––– Egyptian Cannon encountered: 50g for a Cease Fire; drop off Engr to rebuild
–––– where The Institute was razed

1842 Sticky Mouse Mkt; German Frigate sinks itself at NoVotes; VoidSunTzu
–––– founded at 2 Fish/Whale/Hidden site near NoVotes; BachTônDef founded
–––– on German isthmus ( canal) Spy cuts K'berg Aquaduct
1844 AdamsC Harbor; various Engrs produced; Mobile Warfare invented; Cruiser
–––– sinks Chinese Tport; Cruiser sinks Chinese Destroyer; K'berg Bank blown up,
–––– Spy caught

1846 German Riflemen die assaulting Hambourg; ByeMike, KeinK Offshore Platforms
–––– OneW and NotG Engrs, celebration ends (OneWoW will grow back to 20)
–––– Hambourg Crucs kill Ger Engrs accompanying Rflmn (what was AI thinking?)
–––– Sticky Gold to Heiraconpolis 116g (+2) Spot Tport heading east from Tsingtao

1848 Chinese Cav kill probing Rifleman near Tatung; English units land near WallFD;
–––– SansE Beads to OneW 76g, Frankfurt Hides to Byblos 99g (neither demanded
–––– anywhere) No Lady Silk to Konigsberg 244g, Leipzig Silver to Elephantine 257g
–––– … Japs want 1000 so our 'Clad sinks Tport+1 unit

1850 Brit Cav dies; SansE Mkt (WLtCD), AntiG Offshore P, Mass Production
–––– WallFD Rifles kill Brit Cannon; OneW Hides to Elephantine 272g (no demand!)
–––– Armor takes out 2 Konigsberg Riflemen (can't capture, can destroy), station
–––– Rifleman for defense

1851 Brits land near K'berg, Cav takes out Rifle/Armor Celt 'Clad sinks ours, DD
–––– is sunk assaulting Manhattan; Leipzig Bank (adjust to WLtCD next turn)
–––– new Armor kills Brit Cav/Cannon; No Lady Oil to Munich 156g, Manh Spice to
–––– OneW 143g (more than demand elsewhere); WallFD Rifles kill 2nd Brit Cannon
–––– Abandon preps for city at frmr Institute site due to Egyptian units; discover

Can't do any more
That's another case where our only knowledge of those few tiles came from exchanging maps w/Germans, so when the English built the city (or perhaps when the Germans became aware of it) the program put irrigation on the tile.

1852 Ger Alpines assault Hambourg and die; Chin DD assaults CL and sinks;
–––– NoVotes Mkt (needs trade); Tanks takes out Engr near & 2 Rifles in K'berg
–––– (now size 8), Engrs build fortress on doorstep so we can further reduce
–––– the city whenever they get new defenders Spy torches Berlin Harbor
–––– CL sinks Chinese Frigate; evacuate Engrs near Buto

Shoulda resettled The Institute soon after it was razed. Now there's a nice prepared site, and if the ever more hostile Egyptians don't build there it will be around later on when landing can be made with military backup. Maybe the southern lobe of the same continent can be settled without the Egyptians noticing for a while. Otherwise there's that little island.

Now silly me, I've forgotten to start up Mass Trans and SHwys, so eager to crank out Armor. Also Radio due next turn, so Airports available soon. I leave all the 1852 tickling and tweaking to SGs.

(AI strong units trying to attack Straybowcity, in order to make good use of the canal)

Douvres is the name you use when you look at the city from the South. From the North, it becomes Dover...just one of those Janus cities we love having here in Europe (remember Kaliningrad-Königsberg or Dantzig-Gdansk, just to mention two of those which cost so many lives to change name)

Or Köln-Cologne, etc. However, those cities have actually changed hands in modern history. I don't think the inhabitants "Dough-vah" have called it "Douvres" for about 600 years
