I hope they don't make the same mistake as in smacx where some of the new factions where completely imbalanced. Some where so powerfull that the game was no longer fun with them.

It all depends how much the high cost actually matters because that's the only downside of that unit in comparision with what it replaces.

maybe we can build with the editor a test case viking faction with same UU and traits to see how balanced/imbalanced it is.

Well, at 70 cost you can get nearly 2 Longbowmen for the same price. This is probably balanced since they are slow and have a low defens (knights will eat them up). I think the point of them was to force players to build navies.

I've noticed that from the previews, Firaxis is abandoning the old "add one stat to a unit" method & are now going for "F*** around with the stats & price of a unit & make it entirely different" method.

if they seriously doint change exisitng unit stat its gonna be so whack. Imagine viking and marines doing amphibious assualt together.. 6 and 8 there almost the same!

can anyone predict what the Viking's civ-specific traits are gonna be? If they are militaristic, they could be a more serious problem than if they are not. This may have been another way to add balance by making them something other than what they would need to be to conduct war most effectively.
