Out of curiosity is this also based on a game of Civ 3 like the first?

No it is not. As I said at the begining of the first story, my game soon became corrupted after the events that took place. so this is just a story continuing on the events. Also as far as I know, Civ 3 lacks (unfortunately) a Civil War function, so this could not happen even if the game took place. (I hope Civ 4 has such a function though!)
