Multiplayer Security...
I'm curious as to what's been done for security in multiplayer games.

In Civilization II, a player could save an internet game (*.net) as a regular save file (*.sav), and all the passwords vanished.

that combined with a cheat menu was horrific. they could see their entire island and blah blah blah. you get it.

I'm really hopeful that this is combatted effectively in PTW. Sure, there's no cheat menu, but if I can load up a non-passworded version of the game on another machine, I could just explore normally in a signle player version of it. I could just build warriors until i found a ton of stuff.

PLEASE FIRAXIS, tell me theres no (easy) way to do such a thing to a multiplayer save file.

What effect will Gramphos' CMT have on saved multiplayer games? I've never used it myself (i used to use CPT for a while, but now starts can be built into the map).

People who wanne cheat, are always going to find a way to do so *sigh*
No matter what you try to prevent it.

It is pitty those people don't put in the same amount of effort in actually learning the game. This way they could become quite good and not need any cheats.

its true of wat alva848 said, u will always find cheaters.

Making hard for people to cheat just makes normal legitimate players not get tempted to cheat.

I can only agree. While there were many nickle and dime little problems with Civ II MP, the ability to EASILY get by the password feature in combination with the cheat menu was a major problem.

Yeah, determinded people can always find a way to cheat, but this just made it too easy for the non determinded people...

Just be sure that the people you play with do not cheat.
I never thought that revealing the map was a very bad cheat.

I think things were worse when they added units and cities for themselves.

Trust is indeed key when it comes to the group you play with.

Revealing the MAP is A VERY BAD CHEAT. It makes ALL the difference in the world early in the game to know where everything is. We always hate when somebody has "technical" problems early in the game and drops out... Even though we trust the people we play with, the first thought that runs though your mind is that the person is checking the map out

From my experiance I've only been able to continue saved games with people I know, if you don't trust those people then I'd suggest not playing with them if there are others you can play with. It's hard to just find a game (with more then one human player especially) where everyone comes back to play later.

anyway, back on topic.

Ming hit it on the head. My point is I don't want people to discover an EASY way to cheat.

I'm well aware that some guy with Gramphos' knowledge could eventually find a way to cheat. Hell, he could even make a cheating utility.

But something as simple as what happened in civ2 should be avoided.

I hope they realized that, and I kind of wish I brought it up earlier.

But anyway, I usually play with a group of friends (theres about 5 of us "old schoolers" from civ2, and 2 or 3 more being conscripted ). We had a hell of a time with civ2, and im sure civ3 will lead to some interesting games.

I trust most of them. Theres this one kid who always whines about his start, no matter how aweseome it is. you know the kind.
