Video Resolution
Has anyone had any luck with the old ini file line “Video Mode=xxxx”? It doesn’t seem to work in the ptw.ini file. I used to run the game Video Mode=1600 so when the game would crash due to a botched mod it would not affect my desktop. Now when it crashes I wind up with about eight gigantic icons on my screen and the only way to get the desktop back to normal is to reset. This really slows down the creation process; like the new file system and pediaicons.txt entries haven't done enough for that already.

Now don't get me wrong, PTW is a great improvement, I just wasn't expecting to lose features like this one.

OK, I can't help much of this, but in what way is resetting the only way to get back to normal? I think logging off and logging back on could do it.

You misunderstand, I meant the reset button - the no-no button. I was using a custom desktop using a 1600x1200 screen resolution, the game runs in 1024x768. When PTW starts it changes the screen res to match that of the game, when it crashes it leaves the screen res at 1024. Anything other than hard shut-down will leave my desktop icons in a real mess.

I just spent the last hour downsizing and reconfiguring my desktop for 1024 - it's like coming home to see that your wife has rearranged the furniture, you don't like it, but you want to get laid so...

On the bright side, I can now read the forums without having to squint.

Use the *.ini flag

KeepRes=1

I add this to the bottom of the PTW and the Civ3 ini.

It causes Civ to keep the desktop resolution into the game. City screens and such are surrounded by a black box but the open map uses all the screen real estate.

Hope this helps
