Another civ is using my color for two of its cities (bug?)
In a SP game Im playing the Carthaginians (red) and occupy the south west. I just noticed there are two cities in the north east named, Lutrtia and Brundusium ,which are also red. They are not mine. Has anyone else seen two civs use the same color? Im new to the game, how can I check who the belong too?

Romans.

In one of my games, I actually lost one of my best cities because I thought a warrior walking toward it was my own, when in fact it wasn't. The Romans were at war with me and took my city, when I wasn't paying attention. The Roman and Carthaginians are very close in color to each other. Just be careful!

In addition to the redish colors, I've seen three teams with very close shades of light purple in my latest game.

Yes, Ihave found this to be vey annoying. All that was need was to use stripes instead of solid colors for the new civs. It is right up there with the advisor have only a three colors and two are nearly the same???

I like games with realistic starting locations, so in my current game, the Egyptians and Ottomans are in the mid-east, and the Mongols are also pushing into the region.

Trouble is, they are almost all the same color. And there's no way to just click on a city to find out who it belongs to. You have to note the name of the city, and then try to negotiate with the possible civs so you can look at their city list and see if its there. If not, you have to go to the OTHER civ of the same color.

Another alternative is to go to the espionage screen, which also gives a list of cities.

This can be very "click intensive" work. One solution is to change civ colors in the editor.

Hopefully Firaxis will eventually patch in a way to click on a city to tell you its owner.

I would think that with all the posible shades in 16 bit color out there, that there would be an algorithm to prevent this.

Try turning on TEAM COLOR DISC. It makes it easier to see the difference.

I think what would be the ideal solution is to have national flags, a la Civ II. I'd love to see this available as an option, and then a slew of flags from different eras available in the editor.

I did. The two lilac colors are nearly identical.
