Haven't bought PTW yet? Why Not?
Just curious to see the reason why people haven't bought PTW yet. My reason is that it is not worth more than $9.99 to me -- I won't use it for multiplayer.

Civ 3 was such a disappointment I am very hesitant to buy another. I`ll wait and see what others have to say.

Not having touched CivIII for 9 months, I have recently downloaded 1.29 and fired it up -and yes, so far it does now seem playable. (Don´t know if I should comment this with or . After all, it took them more than half a year to come up with a -barely- satisfying game, something I would expect right out of the box.)

So, with CivIII -finally- in a halfway decent shape, I am inclined to buy the expansion for the new civs and such, but I am also inclined to wait for half a year -once bitten, twice shy.

You missed an option. It is not available in Europe yet. Once it is, I will buy it at the first opportunity.

You missed an option: Someone has annouced they are buying it as a Christmas present for you, and so you have to wait until Christmas presents are opened to play it.

I haven't bought it because of all the multiplayer problems I've been hearing about. Since multiplay is the only reason I'd be getting it, there doesn't seem to be any reason to buy the game until those problems are resolved.

Buy it Now! Its a great game, even though it is buggy.....

If you can manage to get it up and running it will provide hours of sheer pleasure......the bugs you can always go around them.....

Its not the complete ultimate game yet but it is the best out there already in terms of enjoyment

I agree with you.

Firaxis has no credibility whatsoever anymore. I said as much on the forums months ago; PTW confirms it.

I say the game is decent. But not worth over $20. I heard you could get it for $20 somewhere. I ended up paying $30 for it .

The civs are nice.

I am playing a couple PBEM's right now. And I did play an IP game.

Civilization 3 was a largely rushed product requiring numerous patches and while it is now playable, the fundamental mechanics of the game are those that I do not find enjoyable and therefore will not be purchasing Play the World or any other additions for Civ3.
However even if I were a fan of Civ3 I still would be extremly cautious when deciding whether to purchase PtW or not as there seems to be a disturbing trend in game developers today where there is an obvious inclination to simply rush a game and then release it (PtW is a very good example of this). I find it very irritating when I purchase a game only to find it completly unplayable and requiring a patch to make it so I can play it. There used to be a time where you could just buy the game and play it without having to download patches. What has happend to those times? Companies have become so obsessed with money that they've forgotten how to make a quality product. And obviously Infogrames and Firaxis have been bitten by this little bug and therefore my purchases from those companies will be thoroughly researched before made.
But don't misunderstand me thinking that I'm just another Firaxis-basher because this is affecting MANY game developers and is by no means limited to Firaxis which is completly unfortunate as I see so many games with such great potential all of them completly wasted because of the desire to simply make money. We've become a society that doesn't buy a game but we buy a name and thats quite a few of the times all we get is just a name, not a game. At least not until a few patches...

Anyway, but I don't like Civ3. Period. And some people do like PtW and as I always say, whatever rocks their boat is fine by me.

Seems like this poll has missed on three or four options.

Anyway, I have not bought ptw yet because it is not available where I live.

Sorry about all the missed poll options. I would add new options to the poll, except I can't figure out how to do that.

You can't. You'd have to ask a mod to do it for you. Try sending a PM out to Ming or MarkG, they may help you.

I haven't bought it yet because I'm not clear on whether or not the SP experience is as buggy as the MP experience seems to be.

Is PtW working OK as a single player game?

Darn, I hate it when I can't vote. I already bought it

Not that I'm sad because I bought it, but because I can't vote

Oh well, the fact that I own it more than makes up for it

Yes, PtW works great in SP . Barely any bugs, and all the bugs I've experienced have occured when I exit. Not including the bugs I experienced with TAM mod before they updated it (which, of course, has nothing to do with PtW itself).

Yeah me too. The only bug I ever experience anymore is when Civilization3.exe throws exceptions upon exiting.

I'll wait until it's cheaper. Like someone mentioned before, I am hesitant to buy an addition that SHOULD have come with the $60.00 I spent the first time around. I just dusted off CIV3 a few weeks ago and started playing it again.
