Yes, I was surprised how many people here praised First Contact. Except for here, I've never heard of anyone thinking it was that good. People liked it, but they're trekies for god's sake. It's nice to get a wider perspective.

And FF was one of the worst movies ever made. Hmmm who was the director on that one?

I'd have to rate them

1. wrath
2. undiscoverd
3. voyage home
4. in search (I know I'll take abuse for this one ) but I like Christopher L. so sue me
5. First Contact.
6. The movie. AND BIG DISCLAIMER, besides the retread plot, lousy acting, crappy special fx, IT WAS the first thing after a long period of no new Star trek. And the girl was hot.

No others were worth watching more than once.

As much as i loved TNG the series, none of the films were that good IMO.
Wrath of Khan and Voyage home are 1 & 2 in my mind. And i'm not certain that there would have been any others ST film if it weren't for Khan. It's a classic and it probably saved the franchise

Yes, I believe Khan did save the franchise also. Everyone moaned and groaned so bad after the first on. (Not enough action, no good villian, etc) If the second one hadn't had those things, that probably would have been it. So we can all to Ricardo M. (since he provided the only good acting in that film )

Actually, there was an episode where the Enterprise had to relocate some Native North American tribe from a world that was on the wrong side of the border in a newly negotiated treaty with the Cardassians to somewhere else in Federation territory. Whiney Crusher was on-board for Spring-break or some damn reason and was whining about how everyone wanted him to be a Starfleet Officer, but no one asked him what he wanted. No one cared what he wanted, as long as he was SOMEWHERE ELSE. Anyway, on of the colonists had 'befriended' Whiney a helped him to have a vision quest. He saw his dead dad who told him to follow his own path. Blah blah blah the colonist turns out to actually be the Traveller. Whiney turns out to be a Human who is on the verge of ascending beyond the mortal plane (re:a character the producers REALLY don't want back if they can help it...). The colonists stay, Whiney goes, happy ending for the audience. The End.

One of my housemates is a major trekkie, but has only become so over the past year, never having watched the show before she got access to her own TV. Luckily (?) this coincided with a repeat run of TNG from the first season onwards, and with the last few series of voyager, and with ****ing Enterprise. She can't get off the damn things now.

I usually leave when it starts, but I occasionally watch purely for the silly made-up techno-jargon. Highlight of tonight's episode: "Saucer Disjunction".

I never liked star trek much, but Croatian TV has bought The Original Series They go at 00:30 every day.

It is on episode 15 or so. Great to see sf classic. Funny beyond description though

Insurrection was the only one of the franchise I haven't seen.

I'll be there first show, first day (screw work ) for Nemesis, though.

Wrath of Khan definitely saved the franchise. ST: The Movie just reminded people of why the original series died after it's third year.

Then I'd rate Undiscovered Country and First Contact as #2 and #3 in the series.

Overall, I'd say Undiscovered Country tops the Wrath of Khan, but Wrath was more important in terms of saving the movie concept and showing you could get the better parts of the series to work in a movie format. The only thing The Movie had going for it was NOT the bald babe, it was the dirt simple fact that it was the first new trek anything in a couple of decades. Had it been in the middle of the movie sequence, it would be relegated to 12th choice for the dollar video rental some night when eternally bored.

I like your version much better. I wanted to strangle that whiney little puke every episode he was in. Second best cast change ever in any ST series or movie was losing that characted.

I just like the concept of being a traveller. That is why I like that TNG episode. And I love anything native american. Maybe that is the 12% native american in me speaking .

Ok my favourites. 3 needs to be higher. It helps to see them at the same time. It finishes off the genesis storyline.

Star Trek 2: The Wrath of Khan (KHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAANNNNNNNN!!!!!!!!!!!)
Star Trek 6: The Undiscovered Country
Star Trek 3: The Search for Spock
Star Trek 8: First Contact
Star Trek 4: The Voyage Home
Star Trek 7: Generations (I liked the crash of the saucer sections- so sue me)
Star Trek 9: Insurrection
Star Trek 5: The Final Frontier (It had a few space battle scenes that are decent)
Star Trek 1: The Motion Picture (the pacing is too slow- if the chick had hair I'd like her)

About First Contact. yeah it is missing space combat. Although it did have some at the beginning with the borg right? It was just nice to see Dianna get drunk.

I'd like to talk about DS9 a little. I watched the pilot, but never really took an interest. Posters here insisted it was good, so now I watch the syndicated episodes.

Some are good, some are average. I liked last night's episode. After the dominion war starts. The ship full of Academy cadets is trapped behind enemy lines. They have kids running the ship. Pretty good stuff. And it was cool they all died at the end except for one. All the dominion/cardassian war episodes are pretty good.

Although today's episode involves some feringi family plot. I'm not big on the feringi. Although quark and his brother are all right I guess.

Sisko is cool. But I wish he were a little more human. He has the baseball interest which gives the character more life. But he's still too serious imho. Of course Picard was too serious as well.

I admit that them song has grown on me. Very postive lyrics. I like them.

They better not kill off Hoshi . The hotties are an important part of Enterprise . I like the quantum leap guy too.

What? I love those Ferengi guys! If you've just gotten to the start of the dominion wars you've got 3 more years worth to go. The Ferengi plot line gets better.

Yeah Enterprise is watchable......though I don't enjoy it as much as the earlier series.

Watch DS9 through to the end from where you are......it is IMO the best of the 3. TNG (and even Voyager) had its moments, but DS9 was so much more versatile. It has the 'fun' episodes, it has the character episodes, it has more action episodes, and the clincher for me is there are more shades of grey in DS9 than the other 2 series. The direction and versatility of narrative structure is better in DS9 as well IMO.

@lonestar

Yeah, DS9 has to be my fav series. I watch enterprise, and although I STILL have to get used to the theme song (I'm a die hard classical sci-fi music fan) I like it. I was a quantum leap fan so it took me a while not to think the guy was going to disapear at the end of every episode. duh!

Still, it has some bugs, but all first seasons do. growing pains.

I would like to point out that ST came out BEFORE D&D, so you guys are "Johnnie-come-latelies" of the geek world.

TOS and TNG were created with vastly different moulds. Kirk gleefully ignores the Prime Directive, imposes his view on everybody else, and happily beats up people. OTOH, TNG has a much more mature outlook.

Kirk is just a phaser tooting cowboy. Picard is more of a diplomat.

I agree Whiny Crusher needs to be crushed.
