I would love to get into a long running game, only problem is I live in Europe when all those games are either on NA or Oz time

The Australian games are a lot different from the wham-bam-thank you-maam games that seem to be favoured by our American cousins. The last 4 way went to 15 sessions over about 4 months. That's at least 36 hours of play. The duel I'm in with finbar just completed its tenth session, its in mid 1800's.

We play 1x1x deity.

Don't bother asking to play with us unless you are prepared to commit. People who drop out don't get included in new games. It just wastes too much time.

I can't imagine 15 sessions. Even in the old days, it only took us three or 4 sessions to get to nukes. Heck after about a dozen sessions, you wouldn't have to nuke me, I'd have already shot myself.

actually the best way to play x1x1 is to go simul and follow the turn order when it comes to war......

1 ad, 7 players, good connetions, 1 hour.....

actually i dueled smartfart yesterday i think, and we were cruising until my connection went down

how many of you aussies use dialup? that really must be killer........

to be honest, a game about 5 or so sessions would be epic....anything longer tends to be tedious..not to mention, some of your guys 's turns take an hour.....i would be pulling my hair out, i may be getting older now, but an hour.....what do you do during that time....

i bet its hydey on KC slowing things down

We've given up simult. One player carries on like a pork chop abut things like that.

I'm the the only one using a dial up and I normally host Not a big drama.

No, its okay, we normally don't have early war so everyone build their civs, trade, so forth.

Turns are only long if there's war. That's why we save the war till the end game.

so don't you find the ancinet and medieval eras somewhat tiresome? no war, i am not saying you need to have war from the get go.....but some sort of war when someone has a tech advantage....

why let you opponents get muskets, cannon and stuff, if you have the advantage bash their skulls.

who is the pork chop

i thought deity had the bad connection...

No - building a civ is fun - try it some time

Also players are always racing to get certain wonders.

Its rare for someone to get a real tech advantage.

Quote:

Because if you get into a war you quickly fall behind economically the players not involved.

who is the pork chop
guess.

ok, if your only building your civs up, why not play a scenario where you each have 10-15 cities and the improvements etc, and just go to war, it would save you 15 sessions of needless play or can you not go to war and build your empire Noobs

We like the early part of the game

And *sigh* there's all kinds of special rules and unspoken understandings which prevent early war.

finbar doesn't like war so you can't attack him and he won't join in one.

You're not allowed to attack hydey (don't ask)

Deity won't attack anyone so he can maintain his "spotless" rep so he just spends his time being annoying and trying to provoke people.

Makeo and I tend to just circle around like sharks waiting for something to happen.

Our games are more social - more like one of those family card games where you aren't allowed to trump Mummy and the little kids get a couple of extra cards so they can keep playing

x2x1 isn't my favorite, but these guys are :b

sounds like your group is fun, do you think somenoe could sub 15 sessions for me and then i could join and take on deity or makeo, or even better , you

Hmmm I dunno War - you might be a bit too rowdy fr this group. We had Berz in one game and he up and attacked Hydey

I tell you what would happen if you played - deity would absolutely obsess about your presence the way he does when makeo plays. He'd be constantly on icq trying to sew up some sort of secret alliance against you

Because its very easy to forget to mute other players.

We've read some hilarious KC exchanges we weren't meant to read. Nobody says a word.

I should also warn War4 that though we play non-alliance an attack on one of the Australians is normally regarded as an attack on all the Australians.

We put our many differences aside in that situation - as Berz would have found if that game had continued

Hey War - I remember one of the very few games you joined in with us. You dropped out, rejoined, but had to sit there and watch the AI play your turn. Remember?

BTW, that was also the game where we discovered, later, that Rasputin - who was hosting - had removed half the Wonders from his rules.txt and forgotten to mention it before we started. Someone would research the prerequisite tech, go to start building the Wonder, and discover it didn't exist in their choices. When we complained, Ras cracked the sh*ts. The game very quickly disintegrated.
