Civ III PTW Strategy Guide worth buying?
Does anyone have it?

If so, is it worth buying?

Thanks.

I know that VMXA1 has one so you should ask him.
From what I understand the strat guide was writen before the game came out (like most strats now days) and therefore it doesn't really make much sense to read it. With each patch that is released and you may want to install the information will be outdated/wron/not accurate!

So if I were you I'll use www.gamefaqs.com for any strat guides, codes and help that you may need. It won't cost you a penny and they are partly current.

Do underestimate the help you can get around here, much better and much more current.

So long...

In general, no. Far better to pay attention to the forums here. Much better value.

Usually, a guide is only like the manual in using the keys and playing the game. It will not help anyone win, probably, as what I have seen in the Past.

Not that much anyway!

Yes I have it and no itis not very useful. I just have to have them for all my games. You can get updates from Prima Games, although I have never done so and do not know how current they keep it. P123 and P124 were the most useful and expained how the AI handles trades in terms of it not cheating. It will not help you play the game a bit.

Are you KIDDING me?? There is a PTW Strategy Guide?

There is no end to the nerve of Firaxis. The Civ 3 Guide out a year ago was totally useless garbage and a ripoff.

Skip it. Read the forums if you're still playing Civ 3. I'm not.

HAHA. I highly doubt that it could be very useful. As the others say stick around here and you will learn far more.

Yes I bought it and for a new player it would be worthwhile IMHO, however if you have played CIV II or CIVIII extensively prior, it's value is less. There are some interesting tidbits on how the AI works.

Air Combat, chance to intercept
Partially because of vmxa1's statement that he had to buy the strategy guide because he has the game, I purchased it when I saw it today.

For some months I have "known" that the chance to intercept bomber missions is based on the mission (50% (default) assuming 1 or more interceptors), not the number of potential interceptors. The strategy guide directly contradicts that on page 115.

Since my "knowledge" is based on 1.29 or before, and the book would have used info later than that, I must assume the book is correct.

I am ticked. Now I have to research it here to find what my source was.

My source for that was Soren. I would take his word for it, I think. He mentioned the number of interceptors some months ago here.

Sorry nye, that wasn't clear.
Did Soren say that 1 or more interceptors was the same, or that the chance increased with more interceptors?

Now I have found the book stating that captured workers are paid maintenance costs! There is either a lot of misinformation here at Apolyton, or that book is full of irresponsible rubbish.

[EDIT] I confirmed (again! ) that you don't pay maintenance for captured workers.
