New to Pbem

I'm new to the play by email game. After playing the computer over and over, I would love to play another person via email.

How does it work? How do you find someone to play with?

You are in the right place. You need PTW and the new patch. Then go to the open games and sign up. Don't worry, you can't know less than I do.

You cn find open games in the 'opn game directory thread. It has links to all the open games that people have supplied me with links to.

If you make a new game, please let me know either in that thread or via PM.

Not played PBEM Civ 3 yet, but looking to start.

Played quite a bit of SMAC (Sid Meirs Alpha Centauri) and SMAX (Alien Crossfire) PBEM though.

Generally what happens is that someone posts to this thread that he/she wants to start a game, often describing the game parameters.

If players want to join, then they reply to the post. When enough players have been gathered, the game starts. a player takes his turn, then emails the turn on to the next one in the game and so on. Mostly, when you play your turn, you should also post to the thread to let everyone else know that you have passed the turn on.

Of course, turns do come around pretty slowly, if you have a large group, a game can seem to last for ever. Typically players will try to get a turn out a day, but it can be quite difficult to keep that pace up.
