Auto Bombard
How does Auto Bombard works?
I wish there is a stacked bombard command. So if you have 50 canons on the stack, you just press ctrl-b(something like that) and they all open fire at the same target. There should be a report after the bombardment though, like 'citizens killed 3, temple destroyed, cathedral destroyed, unit damaged 3, failed 10'

Click the auto-bombard and then the target hex. Every turn the cannon/ship/bomber will automatically bombard that target hex until you tell it to stop. Hence the name

Auto bombard works erratically in MP mode... in SP or Hotseat, it seems to work OK.

Stacked bombard would be cool - I'd build a ton of artillery if I could use it in a stack. Otherwise, it's too much hassle.

Since the AI is not in the habit of using artillery offensively (unless it captured some of yours), you could think of the hassle as an intentional design feature to help balance the game.

I thought that's what Auto Bombard meant. But I tried in SP, never worked right. Well, before the ptw come out, I thought auto bombard meant 'stacked bombard'.
It is still not too late to add that in. After all, they have made stacked movement, not hard at all to add code for stacked bombard.

...at the rate this is going, Soren's bound to tweak things so you do end up with the AI performing massed artillery strikes at some point in the game. ("...the horror.")

I wouldn't mind that, as long as I had the ability to counter with stacked bombard. I actually kind of wish I'd see more AI artillery than the occassional catapult firing at me from a city I'm about to conquer with MA.

I would have preferred the stacked movement to be "stacked orders," so you could stack bombard, stack fortify (already covered), stack attack, etc.

In a recent PTW game (in which I was destroyed), the Carthags had taken some of my artillery. They eventually deployed it for offensive action against me, basically using them as they do bombers: mostly on terrain improvements.

Once the AI has flight, I can understand their preference for using bombers instead of artillery. They are less vulnerable to a counterattack aimed at destroying/capturing them.

No no, no.
Not the horror.

It would be freebe artillery for human player.
(if AI doesn't defend it properly)
