Looks like a lot of people have given up on MP actually. This forum is less busy than civ2 MP. Looks like civ3 may be legally dead.

I'm still waiting to try MP... I'll hopefully get an internet connection in 2-3 weeks and will try it against a friend of mine then. If any of you have finished an MP game, how long did you play? I (and my friend I think) like long, good games with time to build up an empire, so I wouldn't really mind spending a weekend on it...

I tried MP on a 56k for the first time and it worked just fine.

I worked for me too.

Maybe a little bit slow, but bugless.

I think a lot of the problem with lag is perception. IOW, whether it is acceptable or not is in the eye of the beholder.

To me a one second lag is no biggie, but it is unacceptable to DrFell. That would also explain some of the 'is too'... 'is not' threads.

Sad but true. I left it for dungeon siege and unreal 2. The only thing that still interests me is the PtW-democracy game.

The next patch is the last chance for MP. If it still doesn't work, I'll never play it again.

I'm guessing that the patch will be out in 2 weeks or so. It has just about gotten rid of OOS errors totally and reduced lag a whole lot. And under DirectX9 most router issues are handled automagically (at least mine were).

I'd say that Civ3 MP is just going to get started.

Do you know what else will be in that patch? Is there anything major like allowing to change from Direct IP to PBEM? Or grouping of units?

This is a very brave assumption... I wouldn't get the hopes up too much.

hi ,

direct X 9 does even a better job then 8 or 8.1 , .....so get it , ......

it makes your comp faster , if it makes the comp faster it makes your civ games faster , .....

I was specifically referring to the claim that DirectX9 will resolve most firewall issues. It might resolve some problems that were due to the incompetence of the user, if the router/firewall is compatible with DirectX. Mine is not, although mine is not a typical one. Also many problems are of architectural nature (e.g. the user doesn't have the privilege to configure the router/firewall) and there DirectX will be always helpless.

I've heard that streamlining of Hotseat and PBEM is not planned for next patch.

True or false?

P.S.
And how will Japanese scenario function without diplomacy editing?
