Unit Upgrade question

OK, I know that if you build a trained unit, and upgrade it later the unit retains its "trained" status. Are there any other unit abilities that survive upgrades?

A trained unit will only keep its boosted morale level, if you do the upgrade on map and individually.

If you upgrade through the Design Workshop, it will NOT retain the hightened morale, if the new design doesn't have the "trained" special ability.

thank you for the clarification, I have only been upgrading in the field and hadn't considered what would happen if upgraded through the workshop.
