So who will it be 2004?
Democrat candidate 2004, in case your dense enough not to figure out from the poll options what I'm talking about. I think that Kerry will be chosen somewhat arbitrarilty, but I'm not sure. I think its basically him or Daschle (after all, Daschle already thinks he's president, so why not elect him? ) Leiberman is a distant third.

I think there will be a good chance Lieberman will give it a go. He might not go all out, but he'll run, just to keep his name in the limelight, in case he wants it in 2008 (if he thinks he can't win in 2004).

Hah. No such study exists, because the politically correct Democratic party would never admit to having anything resembling a racist constituency.

... of course, the Republicans wouldn't exactly brag about that either, but, then again, they've never bothered to put a woman or a minority on the ticket.

Oh I forgot Dean and Sharpton. But neither has a realistic chance.

I don't think Gore will run this time. He will wait until after Bush is assassinated in Dallas in 2003, **** Cheney assumes office and gets us deeply entrenched into an unwinnable war in Iraq. Then Gore swoops down in 2008, wins the presidency, escalates and then ends the war, wins a second term by a landslide and then resigns in disgrace after a lengthy scandal.

Not that anything is cyclical.

Gephardt

Mainly because Gephardt as a rule, sides with Bush. Bill Clinton said himself that the country as a whole is slightly right of center. I think Gephardt would be a person to sway Independent voters like me.

Something I've allways wondered about.
I know a president can only do two terms, but that does mean in a row, doesn't it?
Is Clinton(he's still young enough) not allowed to run again?

I bet you it's lower than you think, but they're all conservative anyway so it doesn't matter.

Liebermann won't win because he's another of these quasi-Republican Democrat. The electorate showed clearly that they have no interest in fake republicans. The only competitive election is real Democrats against real scumbags, er, Republicans.

Please remember that what we saw in the last election, and what we will see in the next, is not who's base gets out the more votes, but which way the independents sway. If the election was held today, I would bet real money that the independents would swing towards Republics for the same reason I mentioned about, the country as a whole is just right of center.

Gephardt isn't a conservative, though. He's far more left than Edwards and Leiberman. He's probably the most liberal named on the list, except for Hillary Clinton (ok, and Babs, but she doesn't count).

Yes that is true, but I will say that his voting track record as of late has been more conservative, or at least centrise.

Wrong.

The electorate who show at the polls now are slightly right of center. That's why the GOP has to fake being roughly centrist during the campaign, then wheel out the insane extremist policies afterwards when the people are back at work (what's left of it) and not paying attention.

Meanwhile, the electorate that's self-selected out of the process -- about 50% of eligible voters in the country even in a Prez year -- are overwhelmingly young, poor, or minority, and are far left of center. They don't vote mostly because there's just not much of a compelling choice between a centrist Dem party who just wants them to vote and then disappear into the woodwork, and a fanatically rightwing party that believes, via atavistic racist and/or randian drivel, that all the social "losers" are undeserving subhumans who don't deserve to be counted as part of society.

I voted for Edwards. The Democrats need to regain the center and he's the best chance for them to do that.

Edwards is so boring though. Not even the quirky stiffness that I found kind of endearing for Gore. Just flat out, ordinary boring.

He wasn't. He didn't even get a majority in either election. He managed a plurality because the alternative candidates were SO ghastly.

Hillary Clinton isn't boring. Say what you will, not boring. Certainly not any more so than Bush.

Howard Dean isn't boring, either. So far, he seems to be my guy. I think this country needs a good New England center-leftist.

George H.W. Bush was far better than any of the candidates in the last election, except possibly McCain. I think you give Clinton too little credit.

Agreed. We need a firebrand who will say, "oh yeah, liberalism is TERRIBLE! Social security and workers rights, and womens rights and safe workplaces and the voting rights act and eliminating redlining and healthy food and drug regulations are TERRIBLE!!!"

For 20 years the good guys haven't had one ball between them. One day they'll get a genuine spokesperson to say it like it is, and then you won't be able to find a Republican north of the Mason-Dixon line.

Until then, the DNC will keep going down on their wealthy and corporate donors and not put up a decent policy for change, and naturally that will generate sub-zero interest among people who actually want to move the country forward.

I think she's boring. I've never seen the women exhibit any sort of personality trait outside of unchecked ambition. She wears the same fake perma-smile at all times. She makes Gore look downright loose.

Liberalism is dying, Kepler. Pushing the Democratic party to the left will just give the Republicans an iron grip on the government. Do you really want that to happen?
