The Apolyton Hall of Fame: King Clause
Since some people seem to have a problem with Boris being elgible to be elected to the hall and since I have decided to be fair and not consider him to be a frivolous vote, merely a good politician-
and since he seems to be a shoo-in for the next election... what about a compromise on the issue?

Perhaps we should require all Hall of Famer's to have at least 1000 posts, (being of King Level) to be elected... and until such time as they can aquire 1000 posts, their number of votes will be held in reserve.

Ming will be satisfied since Boris and others mus post on topic and contribuite without spam.

And Boris will get a chance to further publicisze his name, do the fora a good turn and make certain that the on-topicers won't curse him.
Since, as it stands, I really can't write any achievements for him... unless he can provide a list... and frankly, the one he provided for ming won't really cut it.

And, for the issue of Civ III posters- most of the contenders already have 1000 posts or are closing in on it; their being shut out for perhaps 1 election before they can aqcuire the posts will show how
they truly value the forum and stick around; not merely posting hints/strategies/idea etc. for 3 or 4 months etc...

So... King Clause yay or nay?
Vote timeout in 3 days.
Let the Debate begin:

Rundown: Should the hall of fame prohibit People with less than 1000 posts from being elected.

Personally I don't care too much, but I think that if we have a vote on this issue, I'll get flamed less by the On-Topic AND off-topic people over whatever decision i make.

The only person who complained about it was Ming. And it wasn't like I politicked much...the only person I vote swapped with was ixnay, from a long-standing thing we had a year ago, which is more of a joke than anything. Everyone else who voted for me did so by their own choice, sans any encouragement from me.

If they've done nothing to contribute, no-one will vote for them (I should know...)

Are you afraid of democracy? Let the people decide! A great OT poster should have as much chance as someone who's into, erm, whatever it is this forum's about.

absolutely not It prevents some of the most infamous people from being elected, such as CivNation (whom has had a big impact on this forum, despite not posting much...i mean we still refer to religious trolls as CivNation DLs!)

and Boris Godunov is a fine candidate...people who post entirely off topic should not be discluded...devilmunchkin is another example of someone who's impacted this forum (not to mention being one of few women)

I'd also add that this wouldn't be as much a problem if you hadn't instituted the rolling over votes rule.

Honestly DarkCloud you are obsessed with this website. It's like 90% of things you post on Apolyton are about Apolyton itself.

I don't think there should be such a clause unless the powers that be allow OT posts to count toward your post count.

Yeah, the main reason I posted this was
1. Ming
and
2. Ontopicers like Locutus will whine

I don't like being yelled at, so now I can say that we had a poll about this and the King Clause lost

It makes EVERYONE happy!

Ridiculous.
As if the the ego stroking and popularity contest wasn't bad enough, now it's got to be a penis size competition too?

I just think it's funny how twice now, once after each of the last votes, people have *****ed and called for rule changes to manipulate the HoF to be what they want.

Personally I don't like the concept of a "number of post" requirements. Many fine candidates have less than 1,000 posts. Plus, I would hate to see somebody spamming just to be considered.

I also dislike having multiple ballot votes carried over. Maybe just the previous ballot votes should be considered or start from scratch every time.

As far as being qualified, there is really nothing we can do if some people want to turn this into a popularity contest and make deals to trade votes... blah blah blah.

IMHO, People should be considered:

For their work on the site... Data base managers, Interviews, running games, even mods... people that give their own time for the good of the community.

The contributions to the different game communties
(This is a gaming site and NOT a political or Off Topic Site) since it is an Apolyton Hall Of Fame and not just one specific forums HOF.

Contributions to a specific forum... IE people who have done significant things in a given forum (like the Off Topic) There are people who make the OTF what it is, and I have no problem with that... There are many fine traditions in the OTF... the coffee shop, the Finnish Thread, Sports Fantasy Games... Revised picture threads like the movie posters, and book covers... Many different things that make the OTF what it is...
But just "being" there is really no reason to elect somebody unless they truely add to the community.

Not that my thoughts are worth much... but if you are going to Call it the Hall Of Fame, make it mean something. If it is just a popularity contest, just have a diffferent contest for Favorite OTFer...

Osweld raises a good point -- have all Hall of Fame members send in their measurements and add that to the list.

Until Flatulus and Buttnugget get their due consideration, the Hall of Fame is truly nothing but a sham, a myth perpetuated by the capitalists in order to keep the workers down.

No to the King clause.

If enough people feel that someone is worthy to be included in the HoF, then they should be included, regardless of whether their contributions were on-topic or off. Bear in mind, many of the OT "Princes" would be King or Emperor if OT posts counted.

I vote no

At the same time I sit in shame for this site as he is near elected, everyone knows that I bring the most flavour to this site BUT SINCE I DON'T CAMPAIGN, I GET CRAP.

I hate the institution and you're all going to be boiled down and mixed with chalk then sold as booster drinks on the local native reserve

What, was it supposed to be a secret - YOU ARE AN INSIDER!!@#@? I'd actually go out right now and publicize the whole thing as it was an intriguing piece of poly history, but then I wouldn't get too far without your hypersensitive lobby groups anally whining about how I ruined your ultra-suede right before the pride dance
