Are you willing to wait that long? If so then go ahead! If not then simply switch over to what you want to build and make the Palace later. Also, there is a buildling called the "Forbidden Palace" that can be built in any city and serves the same as a capital WITHOUT actually moving your capital. Are you moving because you want to reduce corruption?

It is possible to change your capital to the nearest city, by abandoning your current capital. Didn't say it was smart, but I suppose there are rare cases when it would be prudent.

It then goes to the next most productive city, not necessarily the closest city.

ACK!

Given levels of corruption, it's possible the nearest city IS the most productive!

I thought it was the "most important" city, the palace goes to...while "most important" is based on population and wonders. Isn't the "free palace jump" based on that?

Mazz:

Just a thought, if you happen to have a great leader lying around then you could use it to rush the palace.

This is true. I just used a leader to rush my Forbidden Palace in my last game. Saved about 89 turns!

In many games I start my first war just to get a GL and rush the Forbidden Palace.

But building another capital and trashing the previous one along with the cultural bonus and the core cities of your empire is GODDAMN STUPID!

lol, why don't you get a leader and rush the forbidden palace as suggested?

Not always.
There are some instances where it can be veru usefull to abandn your capiton to get a free jump. I never did it though, cause I hardly ever change my palace location.

If you build the FP in a close location to your palace, you can move your palace around to get the most productivity out of your empire. (this is best if done in a gradual manner) The only problem is you need a leader or wait until steampower to make this really effective (a bit of a gamble on a standard map, but a necessity on a huge map)

One benefit of moving the palace is that the palace distance is figured into the CF formula, while the distance to the FP is not. As for the cultural bonus, its only 2cp with the 1000 yr bonus, no big deal to lose, (you will only lose 1 cp per turn as you will still get 1 CP from your new palace)
