Music and Civ...
What songs/music (besides the built in sound tracks) do people like to listen to while playing Civ?

My favorite is a lil' ditty by "They Might Be Giants" called "Son of God":

"I built a little empire,
out of some crazy garbage,
called the blood of the exploited working class,
but they've overcome their shyness,
now they're callin' me yer highness,
and the world sings,
"Kiss Me, Son of God!"

I destroyed the bonds of friendship,
and respect between the only people left,
who'd even look me in the eye,
now I laugh and make a fortune,
off the same one's that I tortured,
and the world screams,
"Kiss Me, Son of God!"

I look like Jesus, so they say,
but Mr Jesus, is very far away,
now you're the only one here,
who can tell me if it's true,
that you love me,
and I love me too...

Oh, I built a little empire..."

Tchaikovsky: "1812 Overture"
Beethoven: "Symphony No. 5"
Rossini: "William Tell Overture"
and similar music. The cannons from the "1812 Overture" are better than the cannon sound effects that came with the game.

Mark-
You like Beethoven? Hmmm...my only experience is listening to the good ole Ninth Symphony. The really nice part was I was a Fundamentalism, rolling through the streets of Vienna in tanks when it got to the latter sections (Ode to Joy and all that)

Heheheheh...

The "1812 Overture" or Wagner's "Ride of the Valkyries" is great music to conquer the world to.

The soundtrack from the film "Last of the Mohicans" (by Trevor Jones) is excellent for accompanying Civ2 (especially if you play the Sioux!). In fact, the music accompanying the UN Wonder is practically a knock-off from that soundtrack! The Colossus and Lighthouse also sound quite like the Mohicans soundtrack (although all are lame in comparison).

Along with "Ride of the Valkyries", there is a lot of other excellent music from Wagner's mammoth Ring cycle that would also work well.

Also recommended for Civ2: Brahms' Tragic Overture, any of Bruckner's massive symphonies (big, powerful, dramatic works) or Handel's "Julius Ceasar" (Baroque opera, unlike the classical operas performed at your local opera house, is amazingly rock-like - really!).
