The Free Land of Ubinia

The Flag is a Ubinian Pygmy Gazelle leaping across a green field as the sun rises against a blue sky.
It symbolizes the freedom and sanctity of the land, and all things that live on it.

Geography:
Ubinia is a coastal nation, surounding a large estuary. It has many lush forests and a small mountain range.

History:
There has not been many note-worthy events in Ubinia's history - it has spent most of it's existence in relative isolation and peace, only recently discovering it's neighbouring countries in the region of Apolyton. However, now that Ubinia is fully aware of it's neighbours (and vice-versa) the foreign lands have begun to greatly influence it and cause many changes in the country.

Government:
The government's primary job is to collect the food, and other neccisary commodities, from across the country and redistribute it as equally as possible so that everyone's needs are met. It's other purpose is to deal with foreign affairs and settle nation-wide disputes and issues, otherwise it let's the people look after themselves.

Each member of the Government, no matter what their role, is elected by the people. All of the government workers have the same amount of responsibilities, and are all considered to be equal - because of this, the government can sometimes be very disorganized and confusing.

Politics:
Ubinia is desperately trying to hold on to it's old way of life, before the discovery of the foreign lands. The biggest threat to this are corporations, which have entered into Ubinia and begun to sell all sorts of material products, and convince people to leave their farms and work for nonessential and abstract jobs in factories and offices. The government has worked hard to get rid of these influences, and with good success. However, there are still many black-market industries at work in the nation, the most notorious being the black-market trout farming industry, but book publishing has recently taken lead as the largest threat.

Way of Life:
Ubinians do not have much material wealth, living in log homes, or dug-out hovels. There are only two exceptable jobs in Ubinian Society: Farming, the traditional way of life, is the most respected profesion. Sea-shell collecting is a new job that has appeared along with the discovery of foreign lands. Sea shells are collected by the people and given to the government, who will then trade them to foreign lands for whatever sort of things Ubinia may be lacking.

The Ubinian Pygmy Gazelle:
The pygmy gazelle is a very tiny creature that can fit in the palm of your hand. They are highly praised and respected animals in Ubinia, thought to symbolise the lands which they inhabit; small, beutiful, and fragile. Ubinians will often build rooms in their homes for pygmy gazelles to take shelter in, but they are never kept as pets.

It has been rumoured that some foreigners will poach the pygmy gazelle for it's horns, which are said to make very nice toothpicks.

If it where not for the reverence the animal recieves from Ubinians, it probably would of gone extinct long ago.
