If you have not already done so...try to end task on all of your programs running in the background except explorer and systray via ctrl-alt-del. Then run the editor.

After trying the basics, (defragging HD, scan files for virus, ect) try reinstalling PTW then repatching if this does not fix the problem contact firaxis on their website for tech support www.firaxis.com

I never edit. I like the game as it came to me... ALMOST

Only patching. Although sometimes I'd like to edit my games, to make them different... but I'd like to edit to make them ridiculously different, with a lot more techs, some changes in techs, more units, more future techs, possibility to build cities in the ocean and spacee (ah, I miss CTP)... I know some of these are possible, but is this easy?

depends on your technical level. the minor stuff is very easy, the more advanced you should read a tutorial on first. Both Apolyton and Civfanatics have some great resources.

Just reinstall it and try again

i had the same problem, but:

1. try to uninstall every antivirus programs you have - it helped me.

2. check if you have properly registry entries, like 'civ3ptw install folder' etc. it would probably fix the problem...

Just wondering, did the regular Civ3 editor work before?

I would say reinstall. This usually solves 90% of all problems.

Zen, yes the regular civ3edit works fine, I'm still using it. Tried everything suggested above - reinstalled like 5 times, defragged, thorough scandisk, updated vbrun6.dll, etc etc etc no deal.

One person mentioned something about proper registry entries and quotes one as being "civ3ptw install folder" however - this is not on my machine. There are a variety of civ3ptw folders under HKEY_Local Machine/software/infogrames (or infogrames interactive) none of which has that name.

I'm wondering how do other people's registry entries look?
