So far..

Militaristic = 0
Commercial = 4
Scientific = 2
Religeous = 2
Expansionist = 2
Industrious = 0

So commercial is the worst trait ??

Not necesarily. It depends very much on the UUs. For example, the english have an awesome UU.
Which reminds me: what are the map settings? Pangaeea?

Betahound escapes again!

but not for long...

Betahound gets to play as the Mongols.

That means the only UU that is arguably worse than the unit it is based on and more importantly the major handicap of the ugliest leaderhead in existence!!!

(I don't know what Betahound actually looks like so no offence meant. )

Mongols! Great! I thought for a minute there you were going to give me the Egyptians. Whew. OK - if you want to change your mind and my civ, go ahead. I'll let you.

Then again - there is something to be said for being the ugliest ....

(THanks Cerberus...)

Well, let's get this parade of dog civs on the road!!!

Well, I guess we are ready to go. Diss?

There is one more thing I would like to discuss. Do we allow "outgame" contacts? I mean, do we consider it okay to, say, reveal/exchange minimaps or give hints where someone else should go to find us?

I am asking the question, because in the PtW demogame, minimap trading ended up being part of the game... However, I do not really like that very much and would prefer having to contact others ingame prior to getting ANY information from them. As if it was some real world...

I will be okay with either way, just wanted to know what others think of this issue...

I definitely prefer NO out of game contact - until two civs actually meet. Then it should be allowed, as it becomes useful for hammering out trade details. But prior to that - I say no contact - and no mini-map trading.

There were a good set of rules, or guidelines that were put together for pbem play. I think it is in one of the topped files in this forum. It also said no out-of-game contact until civs had met in the game. And no out-of-game alliances as well, if I recall.

I have no firm views on this. I would be happy to restrict out of game contact to sorting the details of in game deals only.

And according to the manual, they zip through mountains.

(shows you how often I have played the mongols since I got PTW.)

Have you guys read this thread - quite good.

http://apolyton.net/forums/showthrea...threadid=73721

He ranks the civs in 5 tiers from best to worst. There are four civs in tier 5 - the worst - all are in our game. india is tier 4. The Mongols are tier 3.

So - you wanna give up now? Or do we really have to play this out???

Yep, read it. The author is quite knowledgeable, I'd say. However, you must have noticed that he stated than in hands of a skilled player even low-ranked civs may be fine... just that in hands of a skilled player, higher-ranked civs will be even better...

Anyone here NOT feeling skilled?

I wouldn't say so, as otherwise we wouldn't have chosen all Tier 5 civs!

Just in case anyone thinks Betahound paid me off to give him the Mongols I have tried them a couple of times in SP. Expansionist relies on identifying chokepoints before other civs and getting more goody huts. There are three expansionist civs in this game so it might give perhaps four extra goody huts. You might get a unit, a settler and two techs and be off to a great start or you might get 50 gold and a couple of maps and be nowhere, or even find youself on an island. Militaristic is good though.

Keshiks are the weakest knight based UU. Lowest defense value and not fast enough to ride around defenders (unlike Ansars). Personally I would be confident of doing serious damage to a horde of attacking Keshiks with nothing more than horsemen that cost half the shields to produce. (Don't hold me to this )

Actually I was running out of non-militaristic, non-industrious civs with poor UU's so I had reached the point of having to give something away. I nearly gave Betahound the Greeks but played them recently and found that Hoplites give quite a degree of invulnerability in the Ancient era.

Defensive? Me? No!

Anyway, it's done now.

That just makes you everyones first target.
Keshiks wont help you if you are dead mid-way through the first age

Cerberus - any other advice you want to share. I have never played them. Guess I better scramble up a SP game and give them a try.

And dam. I really like the Greeks. Traits aren't wonderful, but I think Hoplites are great for anchoring your defense in the early game. Guarantees you a certain invincibility - or - makes you the first target.

Well, I have my Mongrels - er - I mean Mongols. I promise to play nice.

Any suggestions for Diss about the name of the game - How about - "Going to the Dogs."

If you agree, I will e-mail him to make sure he gets it.

I guess this will probably be the last post in this pre-game thread. Future discussions to be carried in the new thread.
