How does Domai get other revolting drones?
One of Domai perqs is "Bases that revolt have a 75% chance of joining the drones". Does this mean that all other factions who have a drone riot take a chance that a rioting drone will defect to the Domai faction as a worker? If this is true, how does anyone playing a non-Domai faction know when they have lost a drone to Domai for this reason? How does stapling impact on this? Does anyone have a clear understanding of these issues????????????

If a base suffers from persistent drone riots, that base has a very slim chance of defecting to another faction, in the same way that facilities are destroyed. I must confess, however, that this has happened only once to me, and the base did indeed go to the drones. This happens so rarely, though, for it to be a virtually irrelevant advantage.

Happened to me yesterday in the Morgan 2000 challenge game. I left a base (Morgan, obviously) without a defender for four or five turns (off to a monolith for an upgrade it was) and in the meantime the base spawned it's second citizen (I was already FM) with a blotchy red angry face.

I figured I would make it back in time (only alternative was creating a good doctor giving rise to hunger and pop decrease)

Didn't make it. Base defected (to Miriam) taking a former, and AA and the scout with it.

I did win it back some fifteen turns later, tho.

And yes, drones were in the game, but I guess there's an algorithm that looks for the nearest faction as well.

LOL - it is an interesting comment though about he nearest faction - my base did revolt to the Consciousness, which was the nearest faction (luckily she was my pact sister, and I bought it back for 191 credits )

I've had this happen to me a couple of times, and to my MP opponent once. Each time, we did not have any chance to save the base. You'd get the "drone riot" announcement, then a "drone riots intensify!" right after, and you'd lose the base.

The Drone faction was definitely in the game the second time it happened to me, but the base defected to the Pirates, my pact brother. (I wound up declaring vendetta to get it back; I didn't think of buying it back, like an idiot.) My other defection was when I was Morgan, and I lost the base to my sworn enemy, Santiago.

So from my experience, it seems pretty random.

overcome: You never loose a worker or a drone to another faction, you loose the hole base, in case you fail to deal with the drone riots in this certain base for several turns. It is quite possible that your base will defect to join another faction after a long period of drone riots in it, and chances are (75%) that this faction will be the Drones. If you play as the Drones, your bases generate fewer drone. Even so you have to be carefull. I played as the Drones in a M.P. game once and I lost a most valuable base this way, 'cause I thought that it can only revolt to join me again (very stupid of me). Nerve stapling is a way to deal with drone riots. If you use it, drones in the base stop rioting, so the base won't revolt. You have to know why and when you use such means, thought, becase you have some other serious implications (U.N. sunctions, commerce and research points lost).

The few times I've lost a base due to drone riots, it has always gone to the nearest faction. I was thinking, if you have trouble infiltrating a neighboring faction, it could be beneficial to actually lose a base on purpose. Make sure there are no probe teams in it, and when it goes to the other faction, it's ripe for a probe team to go in and steal tech. That's pretty far out, but possible.

I think that would be a bit radical, as the only time I can think of when you would have real difficulty infiltrating another faction is if they have the HSA, in which case losing a base would not help.

Let me recap what I think I am hearing, as it now seems more clear to me.

If you have repeated drone riots in a base, to the point where drones are revolting, you stand a chance of losing your base. There is a 75% chance that a lost base will be awarded to the Domai faction, otherwise, the closest faction in proximity will be awarded that base. This would account for the seemingly random loss of bases to factions other than Domai. If this is the case, the explanations above make perfect sense.

Thank you for helping me.

That is probably about right, although who knows what goes through the Firaxis developers' brains from time to time

Interestingly, no-one has ever lost a base to the Drones themselves. Whether his is just coincidence, or yet another unmasked bug, is anyone's guess.

I'm not sure the Dornes get revolting bases 75% feature was implemented. Or if it was, it was only after the 2.0 SMACX patch.

Somebody around here straightened me out on this, and I forget who, but thanks, and I'm passing it on:

Bases do not revolt because of continuous drone riots. You can have a base drone riot forever, it will not revolt. Bases have a chance of revolting if all their workers become drones. If you have one drone and one normal worker, in a size two base, you will never see a revolt. If both workers become drones, however, the base will probably revolt within two turns. Hope that helps.

(What I'm not sure about is, does this include specialists or not. If a size three base has one doctor and two drones, will it revolt? I don't know.)

HP,

I am no more informed than you are about this, but I can't believe that is the case, to be honest with you. In the instance I was involved in, I was playing as the CyC. This base was a size 4 or so - can't remember the details exactly, but they certainly weren't all drones - considering the fact that this was on thinker level, and I had a rec. commons....and I wasn't exactly playing ICS either....

As I say though, you may be right - I just can't envisage how that rule could possibly have applied to my circumstance. But then again, I may have mis-remembered - but I don't think this is the full story. Is this covered in the Prima guide?

Well, I'm not 100% certain about it either, but it makes sense in a way, because I've let bases stay in drone riots forever, trying to get them to revolt, and it never happened. When I posted about that here, someone told me what I tole you. MariOne will scold me for passing on information I haven't verified myself, but there you are.

I once gained a city from drone riots in multiplayer. We were pacted and both of us were pirates, the city was size 7 so I seriously doubt it was all drones. I was going to keep it but then my friend declared that if I didn't let him take it back there would be war. I was tempted by his offer but eventually vacated it and let him recapture it, on the condition he gave me back all of the energy credits gained from the capture. I would have gone to war for it, but for the fact it was considered a "captured" base. I can't say for certain if it was the second turn the city was in riots.

I also recently lost a city to riots in SP to miriam, it was small and distant from my HQ (I was morgan running Green/wealth), luckily I had my army nearby and could retake the city with minimal loss of life.

Well, that begs the other issue, then: if all the non-specialist citizens are drones, does that provoke drone revolt? It does seem unlikely (barring probe action) that a size 7 base would be all drones, but it seems quite possible that a size 7 base could have, say, three drones and four engineers. No?

I've had a revolting base go over to the drones twice, but in both cases the drones were the closest enemy faction to the base so I'm not sure that proves anything. I've never had a base come over to me when I was the drones. Has anyone else ever gained a base?
