Strategic thinking overriding tactical considerations.

Building a city on a swamp in order to have a canal aint exactly a thing of beauty either--except when you use the canal.

I like the "outside the box" nature of this "canal island". Pretty neat, (2).

I simply hate Fundies. It sucks the challenge out of the game, which is: To keep your cities in order, stay solvent, defend yourself/eliminate the enemy. Sure there's still the fun of playing a wargame, but to me Civ is more than that.

The AI needs Fundies to pose a challenge but I think players should refrain from using it.

Should'a made that a rule, then

Besides, the game's won, anyway. From here on in it's just mopping up/building spaceship. All fundy does now is make that happen a bit faster

Didn't want a rule. Just want to b!tch about it.

Don't really have to wipe anybody out, just reduce them to non-threat status.
I guess that means preventing the Americans from getting there first, which will be no prob since they only have Space Flight so far.

Crunch week at work: one turn per day all I could do
Bleh! Fundie barbarians have pillaged all the Libraries and Universities in our great empire. Even worse: the toadies and sycophants babbling "Bless the Inquisator" like it's going to get them brownie points. Worst of all: the TV shows are crap.

Canals President Inquisitor Straybow ignores the uber-hawks to concentrate on domestic activity: More Engrs, more transportation, more trade, maybe even a canal or two.

Straybow feels that too many outdated Musketeers tarnish our image of power and majesty, so those will be replaced with modern units. Maybe we'll keep one in Madrid just for show.

It's not like we're trying to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat here.

42M population, 17,050 gold (3498-383 = 3115/turn)
76 cities (3 founded, 12 captured).

Towards the end I sometimes rushed a Fanatic ex nihilo (120g) to start, and frequently rushed in 2-row, 2+fractional-row, and even 3-row increments to save keystrokes. I still couldn't spend as fast as money came in. Where's the challenge in that?

If I'd realized sooner I would've rebuilt our Libraries and Universities. Philistines!

Americans haven't built a single SS part in my round, otherwise I would've worked on the SS. I've always built the fastest because it has been necessary, especially for OCCs. If we're going to build it might as well make it big. To that end I've installed industry capable of cranking out the modules.

Heck, we've got enough gold to buy SS parts even without freight->wonder->SS rushing. Nonetheless, we've got small freight caches near York, Cedar Creek, Matsuyama, and Sverdlovsk for token participation by liberated peoples. And large caches near Leon, Avila, and Malaga.

Nutty comments
Astrakhan is slated to become the Russian zoo city. Northeastern tip of same continent would be a Whale+Fish+Hidden site, and another suitable (2Whale+Fish) Jet transfer station can be installed on continent 22.

The gap between Souix and Russian continents is more than 8, as is the gap between Russia and inhabited lands Westward, so chains would be needed. Jets could cross no prob.

We should've kept a Souix Zoo, but it's hard to reign in a Git once the howies roll. They were friends for a long time.

Nobody misses the Vikings, stinking up Our continent.

There aren't many good canal sites, only small island sites (like the 2 Spec location SE of Rota).

I built a carrier Because It Was There.

I couldn't find an American Indian smilie anywhere.

Hi Stray

Can you attach a certificate of your sanity? We were going to send you to the Institute, but we're told that there are no available padded cells and we like rooms to ourselves

The SGs totally sloshed on a bulldozer

SCG: The choice, young master, is yours to make. Join me in madness or end this game.

Gits: Stone and bars (and padding) do not a prison make. I could have taken more cities, but not all. I could built the ship in a couple turns and launched, but it would not land in my round. What harm is there in playing a little longer?

Canal-bow the Mad, sipping a tasty Cab Sauv before sleep. I think I've caught the red bug from you guys, after being a fan of whites for so long.

Oh, new page & new play order
I've always wanted to build a city near the AI called, for example, Souix Zoo, quickly grow it to size 2 (maybe with a second Set/Engr) and then let the AI capture/bribe it. Conquer the rest and the irony will be immortalized.

well, first time i've been at the head of a fundy govt since OCC fortnite #12. make a run through the cities. all 3+ cities can celebrate with rearrangement, do so and rush a couple demanded freights. Next look for where we can build more spies. rush several near japan. note 13 transports, 1 in prod - try and locate. see that some are on goto? note where going and remove from goto... rush some military, note Spurious Canal is being threatened, rush spy. various other rushing. note extra, unneeded scientists, reduce to 1 in Bilbao

take one more look around, press enter.

1844: Americans sneak attack transport with demanded copper on it, russians get advanced flight from Japs, Japs get steel, russians get commies from English, english get advanced flight, japs get democracy from russians for Plastics
note that japanese don't have guerilla warfare, commence operation Spy Hard. Purchace Edo, Satsuma, Nagoya, Nara, Nagasaki, and Hakodate. Japanese reduced from 10 cities to 4 cities, just Kyoto on home continent. set cities to celebrate. foreign non-zoos now total 10 -> 3 (japan), 5 (Americans), 2 (English). look at freight movement options. airlift Sve gold to Valencia (demands gold), ponder rushing super highways in sve this turn. Gold to valencia (d,740) Warwick to Valencia. Japs want to talk - they offer cease fire, and i demand tribute, they declare war again and Kyoto falls to a single howitzer... should have used the wounded paratrooper, o well. begin tickling of items this turn (spend 5000 gold plus the 8k on the 7 jap cities and still at 6k gold with who knows how much in freight deliveries shortly)

1846: Americans discover Electronics, get advanced Flight for Electronics with English, English get plastics from Russians for Electricity, English get Flight from Americans for Plastics. Gold (d,900) Sverdlovsk to valencia, Copper (d, 280) Santander to Philadelphia, Gems (d, 170) Port England to Salamanca, Silk (d, 288) Vladivostok to Washington, Silver (d, 234) Minsk to Boston, Spice (d, 356) Kiev to Chicago, Dye (d,99) Matsuyama to Atlanta, Purchace Atlanta and its partisans, Newcastle purchaced, Liverpool surrenders to Howitzer fire. English relegated to the Dover Zoo, purchace Fukushima, japan down to 2 cities. Dye (xd,178,182,204,284,298) Beads (xd,162) to Bilbao. lots of rushing of freight, transports and airports.

1848: AI idle other than an american sub sinking a sub i didn't realize we had, we discover FT4. Japs want peace, but declare war in responce to tribute demands... purchace Toyama, ponder capturing Suo (Jap Zoo) as its now undefended... Beads (xd, 265), Uranium (d,1284) to Bilbao, Gems (d, 266) to Salamanca, Gold (d,614,566) to Valencia, Copper (d, 251) to Philadelphia, Wine (d, 210) to washington, Coal (d,237,194) to Philadelphia, wine blocked airlift to atlanta redirected to Matsuyama, wonder who i can airlift to atlanta... decide the heck with it and end the game. paradrop into Suo, purchace Dover, airstrike and destroy Astrakhan, airstrike and paradrop into washington, govt escapes to Boston, airstrike and paradrop into Boston (used wrong fighters, forgot i had the stash in atlanta, so had a several run out of fuel...), purchace Chicago, purchace New York. end of game

certainly could have been a bit more efficient in it, as i kept leaving the military behind, partly because i was thinking of doing the Zoo thing and leaving the launch option to [1] we just had so much gold, i couldn't help but finish them off. Here's the save just before NY was infiltrated.

Well played all - I think this is the furthest any Succession Game has ever got up the tech tree - an enjoyable game
