Original post:
Lafayette, if you need a Git to take swap with you, just let us know.
Spoiler:
Or if you need the 2.42 no-CD hack…
But since nothing else is happening at the moment might as well kvetch

The Division of Canal Development and Operations reports that tonnage levels at Malaga and Salamanca are acceptable. The overall Ministry rating is also acceptable, given our level of advancement.
Too many cities have no trade routes at all. Each city needs one trade route to Bilbao (or Madrid if the goods are demanded there) to get a quick result with large continuing bonus.

We lack proper road connections on the Iberian mainland that can greatly increase bonuses from domestic trade routes (+50%). Mostly, this means more Settlers for construction.

For example, the forest next to Madrid has no road. Cities to the East need a road in that tile in order to get the road bonus to Madrid or Bilbao. Other cities need roads in the swamps around the Madrid Silk tile in order to be officially connected to Bilbao. Saragossa just needs a road to Salamanca. To the NW, swamp tiles between Madrid and Seville/CBeach need roads.

Several of our mature cities still have no Marketplace. Revenues built caravans, gentlemen! More Mkts means lower Lux rate needed for celebrations, more available for taxes or science.

The resident perfectionist recognizes that Libraries have a lower rate of return than an average caravan, and therefore restrains from complaints about lack of reading material for our scholars.

LF comes to power and notices that:
1) Tech gifting to the Sioux reduces the number of beakers/tech from 1332 to 1152.
2) Luxuries are set at 40% while NO city is celebrating and growing.

Therefore luxuries are set at 20% (and the mighty musketman who is wandering on the island west of Another canal is disbanded) ... and the previous leader of the Iberians is sent to THE INSTITUTE in order to improve his knowledge of tech gifting and making good use of the luxury slider.

Further look at the map provides 2 priorities: build ISAAC and build numerous settlers.

1220: CHEMISTRY
Beads from Salamanca to Slim Buttes = 236g
Coal from Barcelona to Slim Buttes = 80g
1240: Dye from Madrid to Wounded knee = 304g
1260: THEORY OF GRAVITY
Beads from Granada to Little Big Horn = 100g
1280: Silver from Valencia to Bilbao = 77g
1300: EXPLOSIVES
1340: ECONOMICS
1380: Barb attack close to Pamplona
1400: Rushbuilt crusader kills 3 barb knights and becomes vet (more barb knights left)
METALLURGY
Beads from Saragossa to LBH = 186g

LF makes a long and boring speech to the 14 engineers now at work and retires .

Harumph. Those 4 settlers working near Bilbao were there to irrigate (and clear swamp). 2 turns later, SSC-Bilbao is size 27 and luxuries are returned to normal

Ex-President La Fayette has left us with Engineers ... let them become Railway Navvies

The Empire is in good shape ... now we aspire to greatness ... "oh get on with the log!"

1420
Barb Knight kills Engineer at Pamplona Canal.
End celebrations and set Lux rate @ 20%, everyone content.
Hides to Madrid 138

1440
Atomic Theory -> Railroad
Senate enforces a Peace Treaty with the Vikings
Barb Leader captured
Leon-Darwin founded

1460
Wool/Wine to Wounded Knee 348/122

1480
Railroad -> Electricity
Stock Exchange in Bilbao

1500
Darwin's Voyage: Electricity and Industrialisation -> Corporation
Give several advances to the Sioux

1510
Corporation -> Refining

1520
Bilbao builds Granary, Hut 100;

1530
Refining -> Refrigeration; Wine/Spice to Bilbao 54/116;
Food freight deivered to Bilbao to provide a surplus
Gold to Little Bighorn 184; Oil/Salt to Wounded Knee 190/216;

1540
Refrigeration -> Steel
Bilbao = 29

1550
Supermarket in Bilbao; Coal to Little Bighorn 265; Dye to Wounded Knee 348; Wine to Cedar Creek 148

1560
Steel -> Combustion
Bilbao = 30, Gems to Atlanta 924

1570
Combustion -> Automobile;
Courthouse in Bilbao to cure the odd number citizen no celebration problem
Silk to Philadelphia 486; Hides to New York 412; Wine to Boston 236. Unblock the gold supply in Bilbao with a local freight 24g. Give the Sioux some more tech.

There is now a basic Railroad system in place. A few branch lines must still be completed.

Notes for my successor Automobile will be in next turn. There are enough shields in Madrid for Shakespeare's Theatre which is currently not celebrating due to red faces. The sleeping freight outside Bilbao is spice (demanded) but if you deliver it before Bilbao has built a freight its gold supply will be lost.

Yes that happened once when I loaded the game. I managed to get in by reloading from that screen as the Game Menu is accessible.

Trade to America is worthwhile because of the greater distance and their Democratic Government eliminating corruption. I left 3 freights in a fort on that continent and another transport is just west of Siouxland on its way over.

That's a weird one. I've never seen that before, Stray. My first thought was that someone had mistakenly used MGE... but then it wouldn't have loaded at all, I s'pose.

I hope [1]'s fix solved it for you.

A world of freakin' barbarians
More work has interfered (freakin' barbarians), but I may be able to drag my computer in and squeeze some Civ time in to finish this off. Otherwise it will be Saturday evening before I'm done
@SG(2) Refrigeration again? No other choice, then?
Spice to Bilbao after freight, check.
Vikings currently researching Trade (freakin' barbarians)
Russians… freakin' barbarians.
Quote:

As opposed to Japan, where salt and wine are in demand? That's quite possible, as the Japs are in their first love, Monarchy, until they get to their greatest love, Fundies. That, and they're at war with us. (freakin' barbarians)

English cities would have good trade value but somebody pissed them off. (Freakin' barbarians… yeah, I mean the English and whoever done it)

Well said, Admiral. That is truely funny. I imagined Stray surfing along swinging a sword and screaming ..."off with their friggin heads."

This was not a good week to stop sniffin glue, was it Stray?? (Pardon the massively mixed up images/references.) Sounds like some serious chillin would be good. Don't let the "illegitimates" get you down.

Seriously mixed up metaphors, indeed
Don't worry, SG(2), I just had the expression lodged in my mind. You know, you get to feeling that way about certain coworkers or clients and you just can't shake it off. That includes those who (harumph!) lowered our reputation unacceptably. Unbecoming to the glory of the Republic of Iberia.

BM, I never was any good on a skateboard. I managed to scrape myself up enough one time that I never bothered to go back to it. Bicycles are better and safer. (Damning with faint praise on that last point, eh?)

I doubt I'd be riding a surfboard, if I did I wouldn't be swinging a sharp object that would be far more dangerous to myself than anyone else. I just waited for our scientists to invent rifles. As the phone commercial used to say, "Reach out and touch someone."

State of the Nation Address
Engineers near Saragossa/Salamanca are 1) blocking barbs from landing and 2) might as well RR. Pollution problems starting, so I like to build MT before building Superhwys in big cities. General improvements on the West coast, some Colosseums and Sewers will do us good.

The United Nations in Seville is incomplete—I thought I had two more Freight, but no. I leave it to my successor to either rush it for 400 or wait a turn for a couple more Food Freight. I've left all the tweaking for 1690 as well.

There's an Oil Freight wandering around America, waiting for demand (since the multiplier is huge). Obviously I haven't gifted the right tech to make it happen yet, but I was waiting for UN to do more gifting. Oil is demanded in Madrid, so the Pamplona Oil is awaiting the Cadiz Txprt. The Seville Txprt is headed to Souix or wherever.

I stopped off to investigate continent #29 on the way to America, thinking there might be Ruskies there. They must be on the next continent over.

Looks like I'm up in both this game and the Seriously Tricky game. I'll look over both games this afternoon and see what all needs to be done.

Pollution problems starting, so I like to build MT before building Superhwys in big cities.
There's an army of Engineers to clear up pollution. It's an Institute course in city management if Mass Transport is built before Superhighways. Just watch the trade rocket with those new roads

Taking a quick look before heading out, i was wondering why we had rushed Mass Transit in Bilbao this turn - I'm sure he was just incrementally buying it . As for Engineers, I'm a bit concerned with the decision made to leave 2 engineers doing work with a barb frigate is in range of them both in Saragossa waters.

anyway, off to church for now - will analyze further this afternoon

Defending my lunacy
I prefer to build MT first for large cities because MT reduces population-based pollution and Suphwy increases population-based pollution, right? Or is the increase automatic with the Automobile advance?

With 15 skulls in Madrid and 18 in Bilbao they were starting to get 1 pollution per turn. Valencia had managed to generate pollution twice in my round, but I guess MT before Suphwy was overkill on a size 12 city. However, SCG is free to change that one to Suphwy before hitting end of turn.

Every turn pollution sits on a worked tile costs arrows and shields. Engrs should be out building things, not cleaning up messes. If you don't allow pollution you don't lose production and you gain Engr-wrought tile benefits sooner (especially road/RR connection bonuses and hidden specials).
