Rabid Aggresive Rodent bis...
SG[1] with a noble assist from (2)

Lord it's cold!

0020 = much tickling of caravans - (2) is determined to go Republic - the RAR has other plans;

0040 = not much;
0060 = hut The Republic and its an oedo year but NO!!!!; CF with Vikings for Navigation - against (20's advice but I want to get some vans into Trondheim
0080 = Harbour in 2 Whales; hut - 50g; The RAR is seeking The Light;
0100 = not much
0120 = Temple in 2 whales;
0140 = not much
0160 = Lighthouse in Frozen Vines;
0180 = not much
0200 = not much
0220 = Harbour Whale Woe;
0240 = Physics -> Chemistry;
0260 = Sell Temple in 2 Whales; We find the Spanish - seek a city to steal from ;
0280 = Shakespeare's Theatre in 2 whales - all ships scheduled to be rehomed! 500,000; Silk. Woebegone-Trondheim, 294g ;
0300 = Harbour Mt 4 Special; Temple Whale woe. Cold harbour, Fur Coat, Woebetide, Woebegone; Copper. cold Harbour-Trondheim 136g; Spanish want War - we steal Iron working;

Lots of food caravans heading for Frozen Vines for Mikes or Magellans - the Vikes have started Magellans - there is almost enough infrastructure to enjoy a Republic and we can rehome our inconvenient ships to 2 Whales -- it's cold. but it ain't that bad....
Sorry - we forgot to build Gulag Centre

SG[1] with lots of encouragement from (2)..

I canals! Ships are sooo slow… anything that helps maritime mobility is welcome. At least land units get road and RR movement to compensate for their slowness.

Xin Yu published his Civ2 city management software in August, and there was a brief flurry of posts re praise, normal software bugs, etc.

Here's that thread.

Good turns, SG [1]

Should be able to play tonight, post then.

I will probably go for Mikes, although Magellan's would be good.

Hey, this ain't no democracy game.

Turnlog 300-540 AD

300 AD- Renamed Ulundi- Klondike in honour of the only
gold special available.

Hmm. We are Hard Done By.
Let's go for both Magellan's and Mike's chapel.
Should take about 14 turns to finish both.

-320 AD
Barbs land, torment Spanish.
Discover Viking city of Lindholm with lone caravel.
Viking great Project changed from Magellan's to Colossus!

-340 AD
Discover Chemistry, choices are the Wheel, Magnetism, Bridge Building, Banking.
Select Banking.
Meet with Vikes, enraged, go to war.
Horse defeats legion in Aarhus!

-360 AD
Vikes fail to fortify Aarhus!
Capture city, take 24 gold, silk in radii.
choice of warrior code or banking. Take banking.
Tickle caravans, readjust support payments.

-380 AD
Vikings nearly finished colossus!
New tech choices are: Bridge Building, Economics, Theory of Gravity, Warrior Code.
Select Bridge Building.
Rush Horse in Aarhus.
Tickle caravans, 4 active.
Shift garrison to prevent discontent.

-400 AD
Vikings approach Aarhus with 2 horses.
Demand Physics, I tell them to get lost.
6 caravans active, Mikes to be built in Frozen Vines.
Counterattack and defeat both Viking horses.

-420 AD
2 turns away from Mike's Chapel.
Fortify units in Aarhus.

-440 AD
Russian King gets yet another itch, moves capitol.
Meet Chinese, 2nd weakest nation.
They demand Literacy. I laugh, we get war.
Vikings send Phalanx near Aarhus.
Dump caravans for Mike's.

-460 AD
Mike's built!!

-480 AD
Found Stick Spit, with 4 specials for a naval base.
Spanish Begin the Great Wall.

-500 AD
3 Caravans available for Magellans
All remaining caravans will be built in 3 turns.

-520 AD
Russian King scratches an itch, relocates capitol.
Invade Lindholm with Caraval, horse and Elephant.
Destroy Warrior, Caravel, capture city.
Get Warrior Code. Now at 78 gold.

-540 AD
Destroy Viking horse trying to attack Aarhus.
Attack unfortified Viking Phalanx, lose horse.
Almost ready for Magellan's, all the caravans will be built
next turn.

I recommend switching to Republic in the next Oedo year after Magellan's is built. We have close to 1 million ppl, but we are still mighty. We trail only the Vikings, though we are very far ahead of everyone else.

Thanks Hydey!

It sure is more difficult playing for other people. It makes you watch every little thing in the city production screen, always making sure no cities go into disorder, etc.

Horse did very well for me in the beginning but he let me down in the end.

Great turns obiwan - Mike's was prbably the correct choice though the rodent in me would have grabbed Magellan's - both is bloody marvelous.

I make no comment, but if you check his profile in the group list, it lists 4 posts, the last of which was on MP. Some interesting speculation as to his ID in that thread.

I welcome anyone who contributes, as, I am sure, do you. Let's play!!

The reason I posted was because my intent to welcome the newbie was thwarted by his not having posted on a relevent thread - not to start a DL dance - as they have in the MP forum.

The return of the King...
A light thaw reveals the frozen body of King STYOM. After some brisk rubbing by nubile Viking prisoners exchange students virgins, he is pronounced fit to resume Kingship.

540 AD: Plays with the tax/science sliders to no avail.

Re-arranges some workers.

Notes with some alarm that we have lots of little undefended cities scattered everywhere

Next oedo year is 620... so revolt in 600. STYOM likes the idea of a Republic.

560: Caravans are built.

580: Meet and sign peace treaty with Russians after they demand Physics unsuccessfully. Several peace treaties signed, with no tribute. Vikings won't talk.

600: 3 demands for tribute>3 declarations of war
Hut at (3,111) >Theory of Gravity
Viking Diplomat killed near Aarhus.
REVOLUTION.

(Having learned from bitter experience in a previous game, STYOM disbands a couple of Warriors so as to maintain shield support for Triremes).

620: Magellan's Expedition completed in Cold Harbour.

We are now a Republic Tax rates 1.2.7, Science 7 turns, down from 14.

WasZimbabwe founded to take advantage of the nice irrigation left behind by the extinct Zulus.

Peace with Vikings and Chinese. We are now Supreme.

640: Whale Woe celebrates, Woebegone celebrates.

Bridge Building discovered. Choices are Atomic Theory (no - leads to nothing), Economics (leads to Corporation, which is a LONG way away, and of course allows Adam Smith), and Feudalism (kills the warrior for tickle purposes, but gives us better defenders and allows STWA to be built). After much hemming and hawing Feudalism is chosen. Science now 10 turns/tech

Settler rehomed FurCoat>Mt4.

Spanish city of Shanghai located. Nomads from (149,115) hut.

660: Peace with Russians, war continues with Spanish and Chinese. Vikings are sneaking up on Lindholm.

680: We offer peace to Vikings, they demand something, we refuse; war...

Viking Horseman and Catapult destroyed outside Lindholm.

Library rushed in Whale Woe.

South Outpost founded.

700: Whale Woe hits size 8. Science=8 turns. As there's no cash for an Aqueduct, we adjust tax rate to 2.0.8 for the cash and sciences.

Nomads from (25,75) hut. Cease Fire with Spanish, Peace with Chinese. Vikings still mad

720: Kill stacked Viking Catapults near Lindholm. Science=6 turns.

740: Not much.

Consul STYOM drops through the ice while fishing and vanishes... swept away by the tide of history??

*************************
Not much progress. 2 new cities, 2 techs. My successor may wish to rush the diplomat in progress at Lindholm to see what the Vikings have, techwise (they're Supreme again )

We need lots of mines, as many of our cities have no shield surplus.... Settlers in the east end of our lands are generally occupied with digging mines. The good news is that are cash flow is about 20/turn, so rushbuying is an option. I was planning to build a city with the Settlers at (59,7).

STYOM-

What about Aarhus? Have the Vikings bothered to counterattack?

Having a base so deep in their empire should be useful for espionage purposes.

The Vikings have pretty much ignored Aarhus. I did have to execute a Diplomat outside Aarhus in 600, and every turn or 2 I sent the Crusader out for a look-see.

Lindholm, OTOH, they're pretty p*ssed off about!
