And the NFL didn't take commercials from Las Vegas to air during the Super Bowl because they don't want people to associate gambling with Football. So OK, how many people here are in some kind of money pool, or laid down a bet on the game...

That was football? I thought it was one man's desire to grind back the clock to the "glory days" - you know, 1930, 1 yard and a cloud of dust...

I used to think the problem was Shoop, noe I realize that it's more than Shoop - it's Jauron's unswerving loyalty. Jauron hires Crowton as OC and Shoop as QB coach - Crowton leaves for BYU and Shoop is suddenly the youngest coordinator in the NFL. We have little improvement in QBs, especially Cade who you would imagine to be Shoop's responsibility, and Shoop denies the need for a QB coach citing that it would interfere with his contact with QBs. This past year we have two handicapped veterans and one young QB that played in Canada, and none of them were effective. Pressure is put on Jauron to hire a QB coach and he drags his feet citing the same things as Shoop. Jauron is loyal to a fault and lets his underlings control him.

I would be very interested in taking Carson Palmer, especially with his interest in maintaining Norm Chow as his OC. Maybe we swing a deal for Chow to be QB coach, and the opportunity to continue with the organization if/when Jauron is fired.

I'm just tired of "if we didn't have injuries" and "if the guys excuted". It's your goddamn job to MAKE the guys execute. It's your job to OVERCOME injuries. I don't see any other team blaming injuries, they accept the blame and think of ways to change and improve.

So am I the only one who thinks Raiders fans are the most thuggish brutes in all of the NFL? I went to the huge pregame party the NFL & the city of San Diego put on last night in San Diego's Gaslamp district and the Raider's fans acted appallingly. Not all of them mind you but a very large number of them were gang bangers who started fights and verbally abused person's who wore Buccs shirts.

San Diego is normally such a peaceful and polite town and these freaks had a virtual riot for no other reason then because they were drunk and they could. I mean these guys were worse then European soccer hoodlums.

On the upside the NFL Super Bowl party was a total blast. There turned out to be tens of thousands more people then the city or the NFL anticipated so the crowd was absolutely the largest I have ever seen in my life. For four blocks by six blocks it was literally standing room only (and for two miles around it was simply crowded but not standing room) with five stages of free music being played, five different half hour long fireworks displays being put on simultanously (I had a 360 degree view of the best fire works I've seen; literally every where you looked the sky was light up with fireworks for a half hour), and best of all was the women. Words cannot describe what I saw, my friends.

Uhhhh... no

Just about 2 and half hours left till kick off. The pre-game stuff has been pretty grim. The old super bowl highlights that they are showing are ESPN II are far better than the pre game show.

*old highlights is the only way I'm going to watch the Bears in a Super Bowl this year*

I hear the Raiders are heavy favorites in Vegas. BTW CNN reports an estimated $6billion dollars is being bet on this game. Ouch!

Interesting news is that the starting center for Oakland missed all game activities yesterday so he won't be starting. There are also reports that he is at the hospital. Seeing as he is a pro-Bowler this could be huge.

Ouch indeed.

Any vague chance of match-fixing going on?

Whenever there is 6 billion dollars riding on one sporting event you just know that some nasty people will want to guarantee the outcome. Doesn't mean they'll be successful, but you know that if it was possible then somebody would be trying to do it.

Hell, it happens with far less high-profile, less lucrative sports. Why not Football?

Lastest news says that he was SENT HOME and will not play at all. That's got to hurt the team.

About fixing - there are 22 starters on each team, they all want to look good on TV, and they can make more money than people can bribe them for if they play well. Not to mention the coach can always sub in someone.

About the center - at ESPN.com they were reporting that he was late for a meeting yesterday and was told he'd be siting out. This guy was injured the last 14 games of last season and the guy who is going to start today is the same guy who started those 14 games last year.

Let's get the game going.

Beer is in the fridge. A big pot of chili is on the stove. I'm all ready.

As far as the SB pool goes I need a lot of feild goal to take the one I'm in. I have 9 for Tampa and 6 for Oakland.

good point. unlike other sports somebody would have to bribe 20+ people with HUGE amounts of money to seriously alter the result.

Someone get me another beer, I'm too lazy to move from this chair.

We're gonna get all of 30 minutes build up here, I think. I'll be tanked by then at this rate.

If they were ballsy enough then they might be able to get away with just bribing the coach(es).
