New Civs
Seeing as PTW added 8 new civs to a set of 16, I figured that maybe it would be good to further supplement this with another 8.

So, essentially, what I'm trying to figure out is:

a) Has anyone done anything like this already?

b) What other civilizations would be appropriate?

c) Is anybody interested in building such a mod as this?

As for which civilizations, perhaps some of the following:

Hebrews, Etruscans, Portuguese, Incas, Polynesians and maybe another Native american andhopefully some african civs.

Also considered Australians and Canadians, but I already have my misgivings about the Americans being included in Civilization III.... hehe

Well, with Carthage, Egypt, and the Zulus, Africa is pretty crowded. I don't know that much about the Etruscans, but I say we need the Hebrews, Portuguese, Incas... The Polynesians? I never thought of that. Might be interesting figuring about how to make a civilization spread out over a large number of islands.
As for the Native Americans, why not the Sioux, or the Apache? Or possibly the Inuit?

If you want to save some time and some brain cells, you ought to read the other threads on this subject. Do a forum search for the Extra Pack (this forum or the Civilizations forum). It's a 45-MB download, developed over the past year or so by Apolytoners. It contains civs, units, etc. and has been discussed extensively.

Some other civs that should most definitely be included are:
Khmer - ancient Cambodians and builders of Angkor Wat. They ought to form another subgroup with the Indians as "South Asians" rather than "Far East" (since Indians didn't build Japanese-style buildings ).

Maya - a powerful and highly advanced civilization of Meso-America. It's very strange that they didn't include the Mayans in PtW.

Nubia - a powerful nation that rivaled Egypt. I think they deserve to be in Civ3 as much as the Zulu.

Polynesia - though they weren't a highly "advanced" civilization, they still have some of the most fascinating cultures in the world.

Nice! Do you have the Canadians as an extra civ as well? If so, how does the AI handle your new unit?

The Ethiopians should maybe also be added. Too few from Mother Africa. (hey, what about the Atlantis people? starts in the modern era, all traits and UU a selfdestructive nuclear device?)

The Nubians should be added. They were highly advanced and were military rivals with Egypt. Having conquered Egypt for a time, they were obviously very powerful.

The Nubian Unique Unit would be the "Archer of the Eyes", as Nubians were renowned for their archery skills since the times they rivaled Egypt to the Middle Ages.

The Mayans are the ancestors of the Aztecs and Incas. THe Nubians would be very cool, but very few people have heard of them. I know they were one of ancient Egypt's trading partners, right?

Actually, the Mayans were not the ancestors of the Aztecs or the Incas. The Aztecs were influenced to some degree by Mayan culture, but were largely influenced by the Toltecs. The Incas were far in the south in the Andes of South America. Their culture is unique and quite different from either the Aztecs or the Incas.

The Nubians were indeed trade partners with Egypt. But at the same time, they were rivals as well. For a time, the Nubians became so powerful that they conquered Egypt, thus causing Egypt to be ruled by Nubian pharaohs for a while. I think one of them was Taharka.

Yes, and I use the leaderhead (Trudeau) from this download: http://apolyton.net/dir/index.php?si...ts=3963&cat=47 and I don't have a CULE how too edit, (so it use the same art as the Mech. Inf. which is what it replaces.)

Thanks, Purple, that's just what I was looking for. I couldn't remember what it was called.

Oh, yeah. The Aztecs and Incas were heavily influenced by the Mayas. I had forgotten about that.

Thanks for the feedback. I'm still on holiday at the moment, probably in a couple of weeks I'll be more at liberty to actually play Civ III (I want to try out that Apolyton Extra Pack aswell).

Also, I have to admit a temptation to add in a fantasy elven civ seeing as someone is going to post a leaderhead, heh.
