Forces Mix (Land) and Amphib
I have been playing around lately on the best mix of forces to put in transports. Now obviously one uses more than a single transport to invade an ememy civ....

What I am curious to know is what other people would place on their own transports and think is ideal. I mean do you whack eight howis in there or blend the forces?

What I try to do is assemble a big enough force to wipe out an enemy civ in one or two turns....

But on each transport I usually place:

1-2 Alpine troops as scouts... three movement over anything helps.
1 spy for bribing, destroy enemy infrstructure
3-4 Howi for city attack
2 armour for killing enemy partisans...

I find this mix works well and is flexible enough to cater for most eventualities.

A few aegis crusiers usually provide defence against cruise missles during transit and I am not adverse to using a nuke or two (provided I have the settlers coming to clean up pollution) to open up a nice hole....

Bombers (stealth or otherwise) are usually follow on forces as I have found in most diety games that the AI has a propensity for stealth fighters. Obviously the number of transports involved in any campaign are contingent on the size of the enemy civ.

Thoughts? Additions? Comments? Bullets?

Sounds Ok to me - but why have you let the AI get anything more than a few Musks?

I'm with SG on this one, but OK, you like having the challange, so why do you need marines and alpine? By the time the AI gets that developed, it has crisscrossed it's entire empire with railroads. One SPY can usually unload and map the entire rail network, then howies and tanks can unload right on to the rail network and attack the same turn. Why waste transport space with units you can't attack with? I can sometimes see a second spy, but if you have multiple transports you should have enough.

Howitzers mainly - armour and mech infantry for defence. I like to block railroads with bomber/armour stacks, to prevent counterattack until city walls have been rushbuilt.

If I'm mounting a major invasion (3-5 transports, say) there'll be 1-2 spies, 2 engineers (instant forts, if the AI hasn't left empty ones lying around ), and 3 parts howitzers to 1 part armour/mech.

Use 1 attack per howitzer to empty out a city's defenders - then move the howitzers into the city to kill adjacent partisans.

Do cruise missiles attack transports? Never seen that - they only go after battleships in my games.

it is lot easier if is island in the north and some squares southed is war declared enemys capital... and they is higher than player... you should win some battles take once this city,at capitol, but want you it giwen back?

in my games is it truth that war beging only if neighbour make SOMETHING with i not cant allow, one of these is declare war my jaulous allies,or they stolen my thinks or they take sudden attacks or acs with terrorism...

But when i make pax,i think:will i Trust they? no i will trust they so much i trust itselft... so when i make pax i
think a war,but i hopes that pax is long and friendly,
because if ai isnt do wrong i do nothing from war.

Ottok, do you play the MPG version? The AI is much more agressive in that version so the "PAX" never lasts long.

I never allow myself to hide troops under bombers. Poor AI doesn't stand a chance as is.

I never do that either (in fact I almost never build bombers, but I confess that I enjoy using stealth fighters as bombers once in a while, especially when there are enemy spies hanging around)

Then don't build howies, either
