Rescuing Faction Leaders
In the readme, it says you can rescue captured faction leaders. How'd you do that? And if you could, why?

You have to send a probe to the HQ of the faction that eliminated that faction leader you want to free. If you succeed, the faction is restarted somewhere on the map, and they have a submit pact with you. So, it gives you all the benefits that getting a vassal faction via conquering does--more votes in the Council, someone to trade techs with, more economy through trade, etc.

There's no time limit on freeing captured faction leaders. I would like to know if a freed faction leader is recaptured, can he/she be freed a second time? I think yes, but have never had a chance to try it in a game. Anybody know?

Locus,
I know, as I often free people. Yes, you can. I think there's no limit, but I've never rescued the same person more than two times in a game.

Actually this is my situation I am playing as morgan.
Miriam captured Zak but then Yang captured Miriam. If I sent a probe team to "The Hive" Would I find Miriam AND zak there or just miriam? If it is just miriam is then Zak still in New Jeruselum?

This is one I don't know. The way it's supposed to be is: Zakharov is put in Miriam's punishment sphere, after what Miriam herself goes to Yang's punsihment sphere. I think that Zakharov is now dead forever, but I would yet try to send tons of probes to The Hive and then to Miriam's HQ, just of pure interest.

I don't have many experience with rescuing faction leaders, but I have one that could be of interest. You can't rescue faction leaders captured by alien factions. I sure did try (many times although it could have been a bug, but somebody else told me he had the same experience)

Yes you can. I freed H'minee one. Didn't have much use of her though: she never discovered a tech, and for trade she's completely useless.
BTW, I'm not sure, but I seem to remember once freeing a human leader out of Caretaker hands.

I've rescued two faction leaders from the caretakers. In the early game H'mniee had overrun Domai and Roze and captured them.
Later I decided to planetbust the crap out of the caretakers, however feeling sorry for Domai and Roze I dropped in half a dozen drop probes+escort outside the HQ and rescued both of them.
It's pretty rare to have a human AI destroy an alien AI so I've never tried the oppisite.

I have once rescued Santiago and Zakharov from H'Minee. Both were unlucky to start on one continent with H'Minee, so her mandibles cut both of them.

I am playing a game in which Yang conquered lal, and santiago. He signed a submission pact with me and I wanted to know if I sent in some probe teams to free them, what type of ramifications is would have towards our pact.

Your allies would never feel happy if you commence any probe operations vs. him. Most likely, first action will be the pact renounce, 2nd action will lead to Vendetta. Yang is aggressive.

I've rescued faction leaders before, but it's usually from mid-late game, so they're pretty useless. If you manage to liberate one in the early game, they'll have time to catch up in the power chart with the other factions. In mid to late game, their one base economic and lab production isn't likely to help you much. Here are some leaders that are worth liberating:
Zakharov: Sacrifice a few probe teams and you'll have yourselve a technology slave.
Miriam: Give her your military tech, and she'll make use of it along with a 25% attack bonus. An added extra is her probe rating, which means almost no one is going to steal the tech you gave her. A formidable ally in a war.
Santiago: Same as above, except instead of the 25% attack rating, you have high morale
Yang: Same as above, except for his inherent quick-build ability.
You might consider the Peacekeepers if you want the votes, but usually I don't waste my time on that idiot Lal.
