You don't have to. Only if you wanna talk to someone or don't have the internet.

I'd think as a mac user you'd jump at the chance for outside interaction...

But I would NEVER trade it for getting a MAC

I think it's considerably more ludicrous to buy an overpriced, underpowered computer from a proprietary vendor when the software selection is only a fraction of what you get with a cheaper, faster, PC...

Far more ludicrous than activating your Windows copy over the internet (which takes less than a minute)...

Well, I could have done the activation online too, but I was too lazy and the phone number was toll free (the automatic answering system made it speedy).

We don't do the "side" stuff here.

I'm not sure what you're talking about a "little town" for?

I live in Calgary. Edmonton is the other major city.
Smaller cities include Lethbridge and Red Deer.
Towns include Cochrane, Airdrie, Banff, Fort McMurray, Coots, Canmore, etc.

I have no idea what you're talking about, though.

****, I got it right the first time? I was just trying to poke fun of how small towns are in Canada, but I ended up own-goaling concerning my knowledge of geography.... :sigh:

I'd hardly consider Calgary a "little town", seeing as it has 1 million people...

Now I have even managed to get here with my new laptop and post this message. So far things are working, fine except that I still need to find all the manufacturer specific drivers, plus finish of the setup.

Attn: Monolith
Intel CEO Craig Barrett on Apple Powerbooks:
http://www.theinquirer.net/?article=7869

Quote:
Young Wil Harris, from a British hardware site, Bit-Tech had the astonishing and laudable temerity to ask Craig a question on case modding.

To which Craig had the perfect reply. He had a question for Wil, who uses an Apple Powerbook.

When, he said, are you going to get a real computer?

At which point the spotlight and the cameras turned on Wil, so making him famous, as around 650 hacks from around the world were watching the exchange.
There you have it, monolith, definitive proof!

Even I have an input on this issue now.

The external Iomega HDD's software bundle reminded me that the selection of software available for Macs is much smaller than for PCs. The FW connected HDD can be used with both PCs and Macs, but the backup software is only available for PCs as there's no direct equivalent Mac version available by the same software producer.

One more...

The laptops by Apple are much more expensive than portable PCs. For the same price as I would have got an Apple PowerBook G4 867MHz, I got instead the system seen in this thread, plus additional memory (now 512 MB in total), an additional HDD (now 150 GB disk space, compared to the 40 GB by Apple) and additional software. I don't pay for the Apple logo, which you seem to do.
