Really? How strange... Perhaps we have become culture-flipped?
We are now US states, such as Hawaii. Hey, don't you draft me!

NOTE: If panag is right about those computer shops, I might have to correct myself from my previous post, since I might posess the US version without knowing it. The container does not say anything about it. As I said, the US patch actually worked, (!?) and I bought PTW in a small shop in Norway......

In other words, and to be frank, is it worth playing yet, if one doesn't feel like shelling out more money for PTW?

Yes, I know that's a loaded question with a very subjective answer.

hi ,

yes its worth it

no , ptw is an add on , you dont get those extra units and civ's in a patch , a patch fixes things that dont work to good

Went out today to get PTW (finally worth playing now, I thought), but I guess they've stopped selling the US version in Norway (I'm sure I've seen it here before). The Euro version is everywhere So no PTW for me, I guess.

Thank you.. but Video games can not be shipped outside the US. Don't ask me why. Unless I order from a European store, in which case I assume I will get the Euro version.

Warranty issues and manufacturer restrictions prevent us from shipping certain products to all geographical locations. Below are some general guidelines. Please also check the product detail pages for any other applicable item-specific shipping restrictions.

Toys, games, and video games can be shipped only to locations within the U.S., U.S. protectorates, and APO/FPO addresses.

Electronics can be shipped within the U.S. only. Some can also be shipped to U.S. protectorates and APO/FPO addresses. You'll be notified while placing your order if we're unable to ship specific electronics items to the address you've selected.

I think they changed this a bit over a year ago. Anyway, I just went out and bought the Scandinavian (I think) version.. so we'll see...

I bought my US copy of Civ3 from France through Gamestop and it worked just fine. Only that it costed 15 extra € for shipping AND yet another 15 € for tolls

That's why I bought my PtW from the UK. Unfortunately, I didn't imagine the UK versions of PtW would get as much screwed as other localizations

As I can recall, EU started out as a taxfree union.
So it's very suspicious if they can charge toll once inside.

Sorry, I wasn't clear : I bought my PtW copy in the UK precisely not to pay tolls and to pay lower shipping costs.

When I bought my vanilla Civ3 copy in the US, I was baffled at the sight of what I had to pay in shipping + tolls (30€ total )

Spiffor, do you know of any U.S. military personnel stationed in the U.K.? If so, you can have the software sent to their APO address and bypass the tolls/high shipping costs....just a thought...of course it does take having a U.S. military/contractor contact.

I use to buy my US game versions through ebay.de. Just bought a GalCiv from a German seller for €42.50, including shipping . This way, I bypass tolls and high overseas shipping prices.

As for the UK patch, they're still working on it. Waiting for it to be localised… After a couple of emails to Infogrames (UK), that was all they had to say.

But the most unfortunate thing is that despite this mockery of support and customer service, Firaxis is carrying on its partnership with Infogrames!

I think Atari owns the license Civilization, and they decide which studio will develop games from this licence. So, Firaxis can not develop Civ outside of Atari's dominance

It is however very surprising that Firaxis have strengthened their partnership with Atari for other products, such as Pirates! and others

I think "Pirates" is a very appropriate game for a firm who only looks after US users' interests to market!
