Great Northern War
This is a Scenario Succession Game about Great Northern War.
you need Civ2MGE and GNW scen to play. the scenario can be found from Spanish Civ site or Civ Scen Collection.
note that there is 2 GNW scens. this uses the better one.

This scenario covers period from march 1700 to september 1719, with each year divided into 4 turns.
I was thinking that every player plays one year = 4 turns.
this is a x2x2 game, so to start you have to start a multiplayer game. difficulty is set to KING.
also you HAVE TO write a story about what happened during your turns.

atleast these people have signed up for this game in the old thread(http://apolyton.net/forums/showthrea...12#post1780525):
Andemagnus
SG
PDifolco
-JRabbit (maybe later)
LaFayette
Shaka Naldur
atawa

anyone(quickest) can play next.

to be edited. just don't remember anymore what I had to write.

Here's what happened.

March1700
*Great Northern War Begins.
*Immediately after hearing about the start of new war, Kung Carl XII orders
construction of 7 new cities, 2 located in Sweden and 5 in Finland.
"To keep up with production of infateries" He Says.
*Fierce battles around Riga. swedish infantry uses revolutionary tactic of
counter attack to destroy a small polish army.
*Grand Swedish army embarks from Karlskrona to defeate the Danes.
"First the Danes, then Poland and Russia" He proclaims.
*Fierce battles around Narva. Kung Carl abandons all hope of holding the city,
local governor refuses to surrender.

June1700
*Fierce Battles continue around Narva and Riga. only miracles save both cities.
*Danes bombard Swedish west coast.
*Citywalls of Narva Completed, an not a moment too early.
*Construction of 4 new siege artillery units ordered by the Kung Carl
"Attack is the Best Defence" He Quotes
*City of Uumeå founded.
*Construction of "Great Nothern Road" from Luleå to Vasa begun.
*Danish capital of Copenhagen is captured. Kung Carl himself is the first one to
enter the city. The city is captured allmost undamaged.
*Swedish general Magnus Stenbock and Adam Lewenhaupt with reenforcements
arrive at Tallinn.

September1700
*Cities of Narva and Riga Held, but only by new troops and brilliant leadership
of Generals Stenbock and Lewenhaupt. Both are granted Veteran Status.
*Again the Danes bombard Swedish west coast, but in vain.
*City of Björneborg founded.
*Swedes capture Odense. Again Kung Carl is the first one to enter the city.
The city is badly damaged.

December1700
*Swedes troops in Denmark rest, and gather strenght.
*Quiet on the eastern front, only some counter attacks by swedish cavaleri.
the quiet springs hope of quick end of the war in local populance.
*Naval battles in Kattekat
*City of Lindköping founded.

about the scenario.

our objective is to hold all the swedish cities to the end of the scenario (sept 1719).
that is, of course, achieved easiest thru conquest.

I really do think that we need to build few new cities to keep our production base big enough to build enough of those infantteries to hold our objective cities.
I was thinking of building cities of Borgå, tavastehus, uleåborg and torneå (to their respective places.) in addition to those that I managed to build.
and that "great northern road" is a neccesity, believe me.
every player of course does what he sees fit.

we have few unique units:
*Kung Karl XII. Best defence (5) unti in the game. Try not to lose him, but try to have him promoted to veteran status, then we would have one helluva defence unti. The game doesn't end if he dies but, wouldn't be nice to finish the game WITH him? in real life he died in 1718, 3 years before the war ended.
*General Lewenhaupt and Stenbock. second best defence (4) units in the game. veteran statuses would be also nice for these fellas. try not to lose these ones either, 'cos they're our best defence against enemy siege artilleries.
*2 cavalry unit called Trabants. they have one special ability, they can "carry 1". don't lose these, sometimes they can save the day.

those black cities in germany are unconquerable. units defending them have defence strenght of 30.

hope this is everything.

(edited to remove incorrect link.) Sorry.

Here you go, atawa.

Andemagne, Apolyton lists the scenario as the 'conquest of Russia,' not the 'Great Northern War.'

Sounds interesting, but I don't have the time right now.
Good luck.

At least no Suomitranslatipööfdå is needed here! I think I'll just kibitz.

Yes, I was confused by "conquest of Russia" as the label. Heck, that could be Napoleon or Hitler, or even Genghis Khan.

SG: kibitz? skip?

I think that i forgot to mention that we play as swedes.
and I do know a few of the events of this scenario, but I think that I should keep them to my self.

Why did you start at x2x2 in a SP scenario ? We'd soon have a big mess of cities/units everywhere...
I neither know the scen nor really where all those icy countries are, also !

I'm not very happy with all that, will try to do my best but would have preferred a more classical setting.

'cos I'm into x2x2 games right now. and how many x2x2 successions have you seen before? lets try something new for a change.
and we will not have a big mess of cities and units, 'cos the casulty rate will be SOooo high. and if you don't take those casulties, the enemy will take your cities.

Yes, but "observe" doesn't convey the flavour. A true kibitzer never actually plays the game but is nontheless more skillful than any of the players. A kibitzer must comment on the game at all times. A novice kibitzer simply uses 20-20 hindsight to point out mistakes and what the player should have done better. A seasoned kibitzer uses grunts, laughter, shrugs and other body language to convey the same message, without ever making a direct statement that could be challenged by one of the players. Coffee house kibitzing is an art form that people will travel miles to see.

I think the term kibitzing was borrowed by bridge players from chess. I think the term was used in the coffee houses of Vienna (or Budapest) where you could sit on the pavement and play chess all day for a few kopeks (or whatever the currency of the Austro Hungarian empire was). So coffee house style is where there is plenty of "robust" criticism. (Kinda like here really!) Well that's the story as I learned it

MGE with the latest patch, but might have screwed up.

I put the unzipped .scn and .net in a subfolder under the scenario folder.

I then went to multiplayer/load a game.

What am I doing wrong here?

The same generally happens to me with the French version when I try to play a scenario from the community. Julius Brenzaida has a solution : renaming all .txt files to fre. files. It works when he does it, but I haven't been able to make it work by myself yet .

I have the same kind of problems (for example my diplomats are pictured as artillery, and my artillery as factories...). Unfortunately my friend Julius is busy elsewhere (RL), so I guess I'll be unable to play this one.
