Is putting people on Ignore rude?
I've just added three people to my Ignore list and I am wondering if it was a bit rude of me. Are there any pitfalls that I should avoid with the Ignore procedure?

What if the only people who answer you are on your ignore list?

It's obviously a bit snarky to tell somebody that they're on your ignore list, but considering that the person is on your ignore list they might deserve a bit of snarkiness.

Ask them a question directly, and if they don't reply...

But basically, the person can't really tell that they are on your ignore list, so it is more of a personal sort of thing. It (presumably) makes your 'Poly experience just that much more pleasant, and doesn't cause much harm to whoever you are ignoring.

yes yes but they always have the option of taking it off and looking at the thread just to see what you said. We're human we're gonna look.

And no. If that person or persons is being a shite to you then put them on the ignore list. You don't have to listen if you don't want.

Why not scan through their posts?

Ignore is way more obtrusive, and everybody quotes each other anyways.

That's the problem -- usually it's impossible to ignore the people that you want to ignore, since they're obnoxious trolls that everybody feeds.

It's the annoying people I want to ignore, though, not the people who are jerks. It's more enjoyable to tear the jerks some new *******s.

Gotta go with loin on that one. It's just more fun because they are usually so into themselves or their opinions that it's oh so easy to push buttons and be an a$$

I've never used the ignore list, nor will I ever.

It reminds me of the "lalala--I can't hear you!" people from elementary school.

Coracle is the only recurrent poster on my ignore list, and yet I can't help but reading all his posts. They are jus too entertaining

Ignoring people is fine, when they just generate noise and add nothing interesting to a thread (plenty of whiners in the Civ3 forums are like that). It makes threads much cleaner and pleasant to read.

That's what I do. You are not obliged to answer anything, so there's no point in ignoring anybody.

Hmm when I answered this poll Apolyton showed the quote:

Quote:
Why are you so hard to ignore?
Generally I don't ignore anyone, you can always just skip past the post. The only person I have on my ignore list is there because of the way he structures his posts they are painful to read.

I only have one person on my ignore list. I had two but I kept wanting to read one persons posts so I had to take them off.

Oh come on. Some people drive me bats and I'm sure that I drive some others bats. It's useful for a couple of days to prevent yourself flying into a rage.

You can read ignored persons' posts by clicking anyway, so it just adds a minor barrier.

Itīs inefficient. If they answer and you donīt read their post, they get in the last word.

I mean you canīt really punish them by putting them on your ignore list. Say if Dino got a little electric shock every time he tries to answer my posts, that might be worth it.

Are there people who try to win arguments here ? I thought the whole OT's spirit was having fun while spamming.

Spamming would be useless; OT doesnīt even increase your post count.
