I was wondering how long it would take for you to turn up in this thread, Vel.

Well, I've been *trying* to avoid OT till we get CB out the door....I get sucked in too easily! But I couldn't pass on this one....

Buy them both. They each have good and bad points but are certainly worth the few pennies they cost now.

The most imaginative victory in SMAC/X that I saw was someone who played green or maybe pirates then deliberately polluted the world so the icecaps melted and drowned his/her opponents before they could build domes. AFAIK, the ICS gambit was also invented by someone playing SMAC.

Get back to work. I need that beta. I have nothing to play (although maybe I'll try SMAC and CtP again )

I only have classic SMAC. I grew bored of it by the time the exp came out.

But lately I have been playing pbems of SMAC on the ACOL forums. Still a cool game.

Classic is a good game even without the exp.
The patches for SMAC and SMACX broought in new elements that improved the game for me.

Modded CTP2 by a long distance. Cradle on impossible is an enthralling game and a serious challenge.

Stacked combat as per CtP/CtP2 is the only way to civ... also.

Cradle 1.35 and Super Apolyton Pack 2, among others.

Check out the topped thread in the Ctp2 modification thread.

SMAC, hands down. I shut off CTP2 after a dozen turns or so in disgust.

Here my question:

If i search a good gaming experience and I dont care so much with graphics what's game is better:

Alpha Centaury or Call to Power II?

I want something maybe a little bit complex than Civ3...

Au revoir,
I never played Alpha Centaury, but instead of CTP2 I'd recommend CTP1, which is really better in my opinion (yeah, removing the space units was the worst thing to do).

Right now SMAX, others are worth a try though.
Have to agree with Vel, the details of the game are what makes SMAC/X my all time favourite.

Can someone tell me the main differences of CTP1 & 2 other than the Space units thingy. Do many people play CTP1 online MP?

Cradle and the Super Apolyton Pack are the two CTP2 Mods I've used, and Cradle is TOPS!!!!!

Hex did some amazing work with that mod, let me tell you! I'm jonsing to get back to it, actually, but won't allow myself the time-suck until after we get Candle'Bre out the door!

Oh, and as to SMAC....I also hear that there are some pretty good strat guides out there for it....

So you fall into this time-suck instead, huh Vel?

I have absolutely nothing to add on the topic, unfortunately. I played CTP1 for a day or two before returning it. I played SMAC for a bit (and still have the CD somewhere) but never got into it. Never touched CtP2.
