new pbem smac/x
Anyone up for a new PBEM SMAC/X game?
This will be my first so I'd recommend someone else starting it but I will if need be...
Standard rules @ transcend. Any other requests?

I'm in if we do SMAC, I don't have X.
I'll take the Spartans if we do SMAC, no real preferences but I'd like a map not bigger than Standard size. The games get very long on Large and Huge maps.

SMAC it is, standard map of planet. Any other takers? Preferences on erosion, rainfall, native life? Otherwise standard for that as well.

Average erosion,rainfall and average/low native is fine with me.
are these standard ? :
blind research off and steal tech when conquering on.
Only my second mp so i dont know much bout starting them, try contacting an experienced player bout it

blind research off, steal tech when conquering.
erosion, rainfall, etc. no adjustments from default.
it'll be smac and not smacx as Thunnar doesn't have the expansion.

Since theres only going to be a few of us how do you all feel about ip playing the first 20-30 turns then starting the pbem from there ?
Most of those early turns theres nothing to do except moving 1 unit 1 space and starting a few extra bases.

I'm in Michigan which is 5 off of GMT. It's 4:40 PM right now for me...
If we can't get everyone together and start TCP/IP we should do a edited map that follows the tourney rules:
Headquarters established with Children's Creche, Recycling Tanks, Perimeter Defense, Network Node and Recreation Commons
All factions start with the starting techs of all factions in the game (eg. if Gaians, Hive and Morgan are the players, they all know Centauri Ecology, Doctrine: Loyalty and Industrial Base)
200 starting energy credits, except Morgan has 400
Each faction starts with 4 independent scouts, 1 former and 4 colony pods, plus 2 non-independent formers
Does that sound good? I'll look into that tonight when I get home from work. I'm assuming we take the locations given by the AI and then edit it like a scenario?

How about standard PBEM tourney rules? HQ establised is fine by me if we can't do ICP.
I'm available this weekend from 6 pm until around 10 pm GMT for ICP, I work in a bakery on the weekends and have to get up early. How about you guys?

I'm at college so other then if im going clubbing at the night then all weekend is free (tonights free but i think that might be too short of a notice for all of you).
3am during the week  nah i get too little sleep as it is

no, I wouldn't be able to make it tonight. I'm going to be gone most of the day Saturday but I could probably swing it on Sunday.
How does Sunday work for everyone? And what time? I should be home all day Sunday.
We used to make trips to Canada when I first started college as the drinking age there is a few years younger.

18 is the legal age to drink, but then most pubs prefer extra business over the law

I have MSN Messenger, so, will be able to notice the email immediately, if I'm at the computer.
If you three manage to connect successfully, rather than wait for me, go for it! I don't want to be the one to hold everyone back from a quick start. Once we get going though, you can rely on me pretty well as I play my turns rather quickly and I've been known to be the one who keeps probing the slower players.
Either way... cheers, I'll keep my eye on this.

As lazerus said, we could wait until next weekend and see what we can do then. But if we can't play then either I say we just start up the pbem and play, we'll just have to live with the short turns in the beginning. Any other ideas?

That's weird, my post from this morning didn't show up...

Has anyone played with the "warp speed start up" option? I was messing around Sunday morning and it gives you size 5, 3 and 2 bases with basic facilities. I'm curious what it gives you combined with the "flexible starting locations" option. I didn't think to check them both until now.
If we can't do TCP/IP that might help to speed things up. Does anyone know of a Tournament Scenario available for download?
Lastly, let's get our laundry list of game rules finalized. What map size, random/planet, rules, etc.

Auric, we were going to hold at 4 and you'd be five.
I'm new to multi-player but from what I've heard more than 4 and it starts to really slow things down. I'll leave it up to the group though...
